Okay everyone, I know it's been an "iffy" thing whether or not we would get a PJ directed version of The Hobbit. But, it looks like it may actually happen! I found some sketchy info on the net about it and thought I would share. :)

derhobbit-film.de/indexengl.shtml

That is a website set up to report movie news...

www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=5607

And this is a short article about the possible sale of MGM to Time Warner (who own New Line). MGM currently has all rights to The Hobbit. If the sale goes thru, the last hurdle will be overcome and we may just get it!! Cross your fingers everyone...because if PJ does it...you KNOW it's going to be awesome!! :S

Oh, a little side note: according to that site I posted, Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis, and Ian Mckellin have all expressed interest in reviving their LOTR roles :D :D :D

Well, we know PJ loves the books and the story, and we saw he can do them justice. So I think if HE is the one that does it, it will be fantastic. And Newline will give him free reign over it too. :D

PJ said he'd like to. McKellan said he'd like to. Shaye and Ordeski say they'd like to. But no one remembers what "yes" means in Hollywood-speak.

People say it would make money, and that's all the reason that they need. But the question is, would it make more money than something else they could do instead?

Could they follow up such a big story with such a small one? Hollywood is about being bigger and then bigger and then bigger ... in terms of cinema The Hobbit is rather a let down after The Lord of the Rings.

Finally, I think that LOTR is almost dried up in terms of main-stream appeal. Been there, done that, lets move on.

Do you have any data to back that assertion up?

It has a war between a bunch of different species, a dark forest full of icky giant spiders, and a Dragon! What more do you need?

Actually, there has been a HUGE public demand for PJ to make The Hobbit, not only here but over in NZ, the UK and Aussieland as well. I think it would do very well. People are still hungry for Middle-Earth. I know I was sad to see it end with ROTK. I was like.."oh, and that's it, there won't be another one next Christmas." :(

But, who knows, there doesn't seem to be anymore news about it yet...

A little more news...

Hobbit picture 'four years away'
Peter Jackson
Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has said that it will be up to four years before he starts work on a film version of The Hobbit.

The Oscar winner said on a visit to Sydney there was a "desire" to make it, but not before lengthy negotiations.

"I think it's gonna be a lot of lawyers sitting in a room trying to thrash out a deal before it will ever happen," said the New Zealander.

The rights to JRR Tolkien's book are split between two major film studios.
Well, at least we know it's still in the works, but sounds like it will be an ardous journey... :?

I'd definitely go see it. As for Serkis and Weaving, what else are they going to do? They'll both be there, and I wager McKellen too.

Peter Jackson's next project after King King is "The Lovely Bones", based on the novel by Alice Sebold. "'The Lovely Bones' follows the story of 14 year-old Susie Salmon who was raped and murdered. Susie narrates the story as she watches the people she knew and loved from her vantage point in Heaven."

After that, he'll reportedly be working on "The Wolf Totem", based on the story by Jiang Rong. "Mixing history and legend, it tells the story of people on the harsh Mongolian prairies and their contradictory feelings towards wolves."

I don't wanna say I told ya so ...

More Peter Jackson is not making The Hobbit news ...

Jackson and his wife Fran Walsh recently signed up to executive-produce the movie version of Microsoft’s hit game Halo®. The movie will be filmed in Wellington from May next year, for release in mid-2007.

Just because PJ is doing these other movies doesn't mean he won't eventually do The Hobbit. He's still working on acquiring the rights, the last I heard. Yes, it could be years from now, or it couldn't happen at all, but I for one hope it does. If anyone can do it right, he can. And since I haven't heard or read about him saying "No, I'm not going to do The Hobbit" I think I'll just go on believing that it could happen some day. :D

Ummm...should he not do anything else while waiting to get the rights?? hehehe...don't be such a party pooper Wayfriend ;) :P

I hope that PJ is the one to make "The Hobbit", whenever it gets done! Wouldn't want DISNEY or Ridley Scott to get their hands on it!

Maybe Orlando will be old enough to play his own father Thranduil in it! ;)
