so Rigel...i don't exactly
disagree with your take on the stand...but i don't exactly
agree either.
and it seems, from your post, that you expected King to give you some sort of answer or to at least tell you what HE thinks is "the answer" (i.e. what side to be on, in this case, i guess.)
i agree with Avatar;
"As for the other...well...let's be honest...it doesn't matter. Oh, it matters to you, and the people your life intersects with, (for good or ill), but to humanity? To the universe? Doesn't matter a good god damn."
but as you may or may not know from other times i've talked about books here or on fb, my philosophy is "if you like it, good, if you don't, read something else", and that goes for my work as well as anyone else's.
i feel like, from reading your reaction to The Stand, that you expected something you didn't get and are dissatisfied. that's too bad. i always find that one a good read, even tho i've read it a kajillion times. lol. maybe i'm a glutton for punishment. or maybe i just like the way King tells a story.
[i rarely, if ever, deign to "critique" any author's work because if i don't like it, i don't read it. and it doesn't matter to me one whit how well or badly it's written, if i like it, i like it, if i don't, i don't.
if somebody asks me if i liked something and want to also know why, i'll tell them, and same for if i didn't like something, but i don't...well lets just say i NO LONGER offer anything like an actual literary critique because i don't feel in any way qualified.]
