Hey folks! I can't tell you how thrilled I was to stumble across the pre-order of the new book on Amazon. I found Lord Foul's Bane in my dad's library when I was a kid. I devoured all six, even though I was too young to metabolize the depth of SRD's character development. Now I reread them every few years. The savage majesty of the beings that inhabit the Land make it an emotional investment. Each time I read it, I get something new out of it. I love the shades of gray approach to the protagonists. He takes me to the heights of triumph and the depths of despair. I weep as much for joy as sorrow throughout every book, not just at the end. SRD is by far my favorite author, strictly because of TC. I'm looking forward to playing catch-up and reading all your previous posts, and I will try to contribute as I can. SRD's world-building is right up there with Frank Herbert. I envision vivid scenes. Darrell K. Sweet's covers were awesome. SRD's writing has inspired me to write a novel of my own. I might just reread them again, ahead of schedule, just to refresh my memory on some of the details. It has been three years, after all. I'm glad that SRD's accomplishments are appreciated as he so richly deserves.

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies and gents. Like I said, I'm busy writing my own novel, and I think the emotional trauma of reading TCTC has caused me to repress some of my memories, but reading your posts is bringing it all back. The fact that his storyline is so deep and rich that it allows us specualate philosophically, almost like religion is an extremely high compliment to what I truly believe is one of the penultimate achievements in epic fantasy fiction. It's definitely in my top three. LOTR and Dune being the other two. I hesitate to rank them, just as I love ice cream and pizza, for different reasons.

Anyway, I tend to get long-winded, so please excuse me (occupational hazard). The term "savage majesty" reminded me of a post I did on another list, one celebrating the art of Frank Frazetta. He's the guy that did Death Dealer, which is on a Molly Hatchett album cover, he did that movie Fire & Ice, and some Middle Earth stuff, along with the quintessential Conan book covers. Anyway, one of the threads on there asked if Mr. Frazetta would do a cover for a book or series, what would it be. I of course proudly put forth TCTC. His artwork would capture the violent passion of TC perfectly, with a pantheon of fantastic characters and creatures to stimulate his imagination. I highly recommend checking him out. I'm just as vehement about FF as I am SRD.

I don't know if I added the links right, but oh well, it's worth a little cutting and pasting.

Hey Clarsen. I like Frazetta as well. Had a calendar of his when I was young. It was a great x-mas gift! If you like Frazetta check out Luis Royo as well. He's excellent!
