I definitely prefer the US version - I'm not even sure what the UK version is supposed to be, except ugly.

I prefer the UK version. It's trees (always a good thing in my book), and I swear there's some kind of subliminal message written in it, but damn my eyes if I can read it. The US cover will be good for paperbacks, though, and it will definately increase sells.

I've always dug Whelan so the US is for me! I've been told that the "trees" on the UK cover spell out Donaldson-but I'll be damned if I can see that....................

I prefer the metalic foil on the British cover, simple and classy.
Perhaps once the book is released and I understand what the American cover is about, I might then prefer that one.

I like the US version, but I do believe I can see Donaldson in the trees...

The trees to me look like old Nordic runes such as found on several stones from the Viking Age... it is very possible that the "trees" would spell out Donaldson if that is indeed the case... Anyone with experience of Nordic Runes?

I prefer the UK version, because it is sort of subtle with whatever it is trying to get across (i have no idea). Donaldson's writing is subtle so it fits, and it is something different. I myself am getting tired of most fantasy book covers, they are becoming repetitive and to over the top.

Neither one is being done by Sweet, so that's a major plus in both of their favors.

I don't know any runes, but if you look at the patterns of the trees, they repeat similarly to the letters in "Donaldson" - look for the D and the O patterns.

The UK one looks better in the papery flesh.

I'm going to have so that that while I like them both (the Whelan one is unfathomably better than seeing another Sweet interpretation of Covenant with a hunched back and gaping mouth), I think I prefer the UK one. It just seems more...classy.

Very true, CovJr - I had preferred the UK cover from the first, but was still suprised by how
good it looks when you see an actual copy (the images online really don't show the gold very well).

I like them both. Whelan's version captures The Land quite nicely. The UK version is more restrained and scholarly.
