"Studying them with her percipience, she knew that these mountains were angry. Only the ancient slowness of their lives prevented their umbrage from taking palpable form."
The One Tree, Chapter Six "The Questimoon"
So how big of a jerk do you have to be to anger a mountain? What sort of thing is offensive to a mountain anyway? And if you send flowers (and maybe a box of rock candy) will that make things better?

Yes, those are very interesting lines in the chapter. I'm not clear on their meaning. I had the vague notion that it was the Elohim that made the mountains angry, though that doesn't make much logical sense. It's more by association, since we happen to be entering the land of the Elohim.

Somehow I think it may be related to the rather impossible geography of the Elohim's home...

So you all think that those lines should be taken literally?

Maybe we'll see more of this in the Third Chronicles.

I think this sort of thing is going to be a major part of the third chrons... SRD has hinted that the land reacts in the only way it can... or something... I want to see Mt. Thunder rid itself of those cavewights

Mountains can never have enough rocks

Perhaps it was earth-power reacting in an angry way, like mabye the Elohim froced the mountains to change their from when forming to give them a secure home, that sounds like a "high and mighty" Elohim thing to do.
