This is for anyone who has a copy of Runes of the Earth. Is there a new map of the land in it, or is the previous one used again?

There's no map at all in my proof copy. It says 'Map to come'

I don't think it says that in my copy... But I hpe there is a map to come.

I think Steve answered this in the Elohimfest interview, or the Gradual Interview, or somewhere else (that I can't remember). But the decision to have the maps like that were his. He focussed on those areas because it's where the action was taking place - and he didn't want to limit his options for other areas in the Land.

Perhaps he's a bookseller. I suspect that stores will get them in stock over the next few weeks, and put them on the shelf on its release day. (assuming that books work the same as movies and computer games)

I don't mind the incomplete map idea, I just don't like the actual maps themselves very much.

They are quite "busy" for not showing that much information.

I actually got mine by winning an online contest - thought I'd be getting a crappy paperbound <Advance Reader's Not for Resale> copy...they sent me the hardbound!

Gloat gloat gloat gloat...

And that being said...yeah, I actually do intend to buy a copy - so as not to deprive SRD of the sales.

You've got to be joking! I think it's safe to say that Stephen Donaldson is not short of a few bucks. I would imagine he would say to you, if you're determined to spend the money give it to a Charity.

I agree with sf - someone bought and paid for that book, you shouldn't feel that you have to buy another. Be thankful for your good fortune!

Whoever was running the contest should have bought the book at wholesale, so it should count as a sale and Putnam will then be paying SRD his royalty on that copy. So I don't think you've deprived him of anything. If you feel that you have, you could always send him a tip. His royalty on an American hardcover, at current prices, is somewhere in the neighbourhood of four dollars.

If you feel you must buy a second copy, I suggest that you turn round and give it to someone who will like it, but wasn't planning to buy the series. That way you may cause them to buy the next three books, which will increase SRD's sales and make everyone involved that much happier. Just a thought.
