Captain Mimak stood aboard the bridge of the Alliance of Free Planets Sixth Fleet flagship-- the Freedom . He entered the turbolift to Admiral Penn's private suite. Admiral Penn was in charge of the Alliance's sixth fleet, but received commands from the Alliance High Command on the capital planet. Mimak was his de facto second in command, and pretty good at it. A voice in the turbolift announced "Floor 12. The Admiral's private suite. Password, please". Mimak said the password "Roge", Penn's home-planet. The door slid open. Penn was sitting in the Admiral's chair, with displays of the Freedom's position around his chair. Penn was an average sized human, about 1.8 meters. "Come in, Captain." Mimak gulped. "Yes, sir. You asked me to meet you here." Penn smiled. "Captain, you have a knack for pointing out the obvious." Penn stood up and turned off the displays of the current location of the Freedom, and turned on a display of the Meren Galaxy(the Alliance's name for the Milky Way). He pointed to a small, specific planet, outside of the Alliance's borders. "Captain, are you familiar with this planet?". Mimak looked closer. The planet appeared to have seven main masses of land, but was covered mostly with water. "No sir. Should I be?" Penn nodded, no. "Its a small planet with undeveloped humans on it. This map of the Meren is brand new, I just downloaded it today. That planet has just been discovered, and the High Command knows a little about its history." Mimak groaned inwardly. Penn often sited historical facts. "The planets humans worship many gods under different religions. Most of them fight amongst themselves. The planet is not only divided religiously, but has many warring nations as well. These nations also worship manu different gods under different religions. This poor, strange, savage, and pathetic planet is much like our sector of the galaxy before the Alliance was formed, seperated in short. Under the requests of the Senate and Fleet High Command, theFreedom is ordered to this planet to put it out of its misery." Mimak was horrified. "Sir, do you really think its necessary? You said yourself, its like our sector pre-Alliance, we should leave it alone and let it develop." Penn shook his head. "You dont understand, Captain. Theyve been warring for centuries. Its not going to stop. In short, we have to stop it. Destroying the planet would be best for all beings on it. And besides, I dont give the High commands, I follow them." Mimak sighed. He couldnt win, not when Penn was like this. "Very well, Admiral. The name of the planet and its coordinates?" Penn smiled grimly at him. "The coordinates are in the computer. The planets name- Earth"[/i]

YAY! He finally posted his story from the Hangar! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Did I mention that I like his story? Brings up all sorts of questions about respecting differences and tolerance and the Star Trek policy of non-interference with other cultures in my mind.

yes I really like Mhoram's short story!! really brilliant and yes duchess it does raise those very issues .. very insightful!!

I love work like that .. work that engenders thought and reflection ..

Which is the primary reason I love the work of SRD .. he has woven so many thought provoking concepts together ..

A work like this cannot help but encourage social-[self]analysis and reflection ..

Now Mhoram we still await that larger work you have alluded to and still need to complete.

You have a talent for writing .. I hope we can see more of it! :P

Good name for the ship - the Freedom. Like the Ravers being named samadhi, moksha, and turiya.

...--"...as the double-disc shot me through the connective from Liecia to Earth a hole suddenly opened in it's fabric into "real space" and I began to see a huge asteriod slowly revolve towards me. The double-disc flew up it's side coming to rest on the uppermost plateau where I gazed up at five gigantic entities hovering above a wide rock altar. Instantaneously one spoke in the center of my mind and I knew what they were. In the middle, wavering over the highest ground, was The Silent Universe, "I hold, in my non-existant hand the translucent orb that contains all there is and all that will ever be. Only you, Main Observer, know the location of the key that unlocks this ball freeing everything from itself, to discover it you must journey deep, deep within yourself to even begin to know where to start. It will, simply, be crushed if you do not, and there is very little time." The outline of a behemoth clad in scarlet robe and hood raised it's head revealing not a face, but where a face should be: total darkness, and in that void were stars...Apex, furthest to the right, invisable, black, was laughing but none paid him any attention, at all...." from Moonspots and the Alien by me '79

Danlo is teasing us. He's giving us a little lick of great tasting chocolate, and then not letting us have the whole candy bar.
I also love reading the work of these two talented men! :D
