I wasn't sure whether this should be in Vespers or here, so I lobbed it in here on a whim.

Some tv shows have classic theme tunes. As a child of the 80s, I'm thinking Knight Rider, Airwolf, the A Team... Anyone have other nominations?

I was a big fan of Airwolf, so I'm a little biased.

All in the Family has a great theme song at the beginning of show; so did Cheers, Simpsons (good ol' Danny Elfman), Sanford and Son, and so many others.

Airwolf's theme is my favorite of the 3 choices, but there are many other TV themes I'm quite fond of.

Favorite 70's themes:

M*A*S*H
The Rockford Files
Dallas
Taxi
Laverne & Shirley
Good Times
Welcome Back, Kotter
CHiPs
Trapper John, M.D.
The New Avengers

Favorite 80's themes:

The Greatest American Hero
Magnum, P.I.
Hill Street Blues
Miami Vice
Dynasty
St. Elsewhere
MacGyver
Bring 'Em Back Alive
Tales From The Gold Monkey
Remington Steele

Favorite themes from other eras:

The Avengers
Dr. Who
The Twilight Zone (not much of a theme, but the opening motif is a classic)
Star Trek
Mission: Impossible

Favorite original composition used as a TV theme (okay, it's the only one I know of):

"Heaven & Hell, Part I" by Vangelis, used for Carl Sagan's Cosmos

Ah, of course. And I forgot one: Quantum Leap.

I've got to give it to the A-team...but Magnum would get my vote out of that era. That or the Muppets! :)

Magnum, Quantum Leap and MacGuyver should all be in there. I voted for Airwolf though, I probably preferred the other two shows, but Airwolf definitely had better music.

On a related note, I found out what the 'crime' that the A-Team did not commit was the other day. My friend told me that I'd wish I never found out, and he was right.

I was going to ask you to tell me, but I've changed my mind. Was it something really anticlimactic, like weeing in public?

Two themes I really liked as a kid were from SWAT and Ba Ba Black Sheep.

As to the poll question I didn't watch Airwolf. I watched the A team quite a bit but the theme didn't leave a lasting impression so I voted for Knight Rider. :D

It's not quite that anticlimactic, but here it is in case you're curious:
Spoiler
Towards the end of the Vietnam war a Colonel ordered the A Team to rob the Bank of Hanoi, which they duly did. Unfortunately the Colonel was killed shortly afterwards and his headquarters burned to the ground. The A Team were caught with all the booty and no evidence that they were acting under orders.
It's not too bad I suppose, but I was hoping for something a bit more dramatic

(...it's something you'll never be on, so don't worry about it :P )

Knight Rider was the only theme of the 3 with any class.

Miami Vice is the coolest theme of all time--by Smallville's coming damm close!!! 8)
