Wish I could contribute something more here than I am, but I have no knowledge of what you are speaking. Sounds interesting. I did find the correct spelling of banal (thanks to my newly found toy, the OED). The subject sounds fascinating: cartoon series; set of books?

Red Dwarf is a Brit Sci-fi Comedy og the 80's and 90's. Set upon the mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew consists of the last human left alive Lister, Cat a super evolved cat, Rimmer a Hologram, Kryten a Robot menial, and Holly the ships Computer. The first 2 or 3 series are probably the best, IMO, I think there was 7 series in all. You have to like the normal strangness that comes with Brit Comedy, but its definitely worth a look out for. All the series are available on Video and DVD.

I'll definitely have to look at it sometime. Sounds like an interesting premise. I don't think I really understand British humor, though I've been told by friends that my humor (such as it is) is definitely British. And I guess that would be tongue-in-cheek humor?

oh thank the gods .. someone is watching my spelling ..

*bows deeply in express gratitude*

I am the most shameful speller that has ever come into existance ..
<totally spelling challenged among a host of other things.

Red Dwarf is great British humour .. Monty Python .. the Goons .. are other examples of hilarious and stupendously silly British comedy ..

I love British humour .. its honest fresh and socially analytical .. its silly at worst .. and side splitting at best .. Do you like Mad (ie the Mad magazines?)? .. is that what it is called Mad TV? I forget .. but although imo less credible as fresh humour .. it has the potential of being similarly funny/silly.

It's those British Genes in you :) That and a lack of decent Aussie humour 8O

Bannor -

You need a sense of humour digging out those stables all the time.
