Hi All,
Any of you have the book after purchasing it at the bookstore? Just curious.

Just checked with Walden Books in the mall, and they have them on the shelf. Amazon.com started shipping them already as well.

Went to Barnes and Noble today, and they had not yet received their shipment. Went to Borders next, where I purchased it, and their shipment was nearly sold out.

Yup. Picked up a signed cop. Any idea of how many books Steve signed before they were sent out?

I went to my Borders in Manhattan this morning and they hadn't taken them out of the boxes. After about 10-15 minutes, they found it and I told them they had to have them out

Pulled the last one off the shelf last night, and got 20% off.
Now to get some time to read it.

I went to Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago to specifically order a copy of Runes to make sure I had it in my obessive little hands by Oct. 14th. Went by the store after work and they didn't get the shipment in and are not expecting a shipment to arrive until the 23rd!
Should I order the book online or just try to be patient. B&N website says the book usually ships in 24 hours, do I take the risk????

My Barnes and Noble got me my copy of Runes on Wednesday night. Borders had copies of the books, but they said they couldn't sell them until Thursday. I'm VERY glad that B&N didn't have similar compunctions or restrictions.

That's what Amazon is for, my friend.

Order it to be delivered "day of", and you'll get it either on the very day it's to be released in the stores, or the very next day, depending on minor details. Of course you have to pay for overnight fees and whatnot.

Meanwhile, here in Canada, no copies. We have essentially only one chain of bookshops in this country, Chapters/Indigo. The two companies, Chapters and Indigo, merged a few years ago, because according to the Canadian government, a total monopoly is better than letting an eeeeevil American company like B&N open stores in this country. Their online shop, chapters.indigo.ca, claims that Runes is shipping now, pronto, right this moment. But none of their retail stores have any copies in stock. Huh? Furthermore, they still list it as 496 pages (the length announced before final editing), with dimensions of (get this) 0 x 0 x 0 inches. (B&N claims it's 560 pages, Amazon says 532.) In other words, they don't have any copies of the book and have never seen one (or they'd know the dimensions, which are important when calculating shipping costs), but claim to be shipping them from their online store in 24 hours.
What I'm saying is: Buying books in Canada sucks.

Ok you got me there but I am at a loss of a way to pay for it. All I have is cash( the life of a teenager is full of hardships). I tried to get my dad to order it for me off the internet but he just started mumbling something about how the internet is evil and they steal from you and then something about higher taxes. But I guess I must camp out at the bookstore if I want it.

I remember all too well the life of a teenager, and the meager funds and minimal access to things like credit cards and checking accounts. I bought all of the Second Chronicles from the Science Fiction Book Club, and let me tell you, I wish my parents had been a little more generous and coughed up the extra money to allow me to get them from the bookstore. Those hardcovers are as tattered as papperbacks today, hardly collectible. Also, when I think of all of the different hardcover versions of The Lord of the Rings that have come and gone since 1977 that I missed out on...oh rot, I digress widely. Never mind. I understand.

Well, I'm personally insane. Perhaps somewhat like

because I ordered a copy from England, to go along with the two copies I bought here - one for reading and writing notes in, and the other for wrapping up and collecting. Nobody in my circle of friends (which sadly does not include any fantasy appreciators), understands this particular break in my normally sane character. Currently, I'm the subject of much derision.

I've been thinking about buying an English version for my collection. The God-awful ugly cover is a deterrent though.

Got mine last night at Media play - they actually had 7 or 8 copies on the shelf - (yes, I live in a lilly-white, conservative little burb - not a great throng of fantasy fans, much less SRD fans

)
Read until 3 am last night - almost half way thru!!
