Subjects are Spoilers Too!

I'm getting lots of Rune Spoilers when I search for posts since I last logged on.

People are using subjects like "Do you think Linden should have refused to cut Covenant's hair that day that the Elohim lost the battle with Cail who had become a Sandgorgon, because the Colossus of the Fall was manifesting as a pair of scissors?".

These show up on peoples screens even when they aren't in the Runes forum, you know. Sometimes it just takes three or four words, which you read before you even realize what it is, to spoil things.

Thanks.

People here are still spoiling Runes for me. I inadvertantly got another spoiler today, because it was in the subject, and the subject showed up in Posts Since Last Visit. (By "got another spoiler", I mean I learned something else that happens in Runes.)

I asked nicely.

But today I learned that Anele gets possessed, and TC meets his son. Cuz people put it in the subject.

Thanks so much! Can't wait to read about it when I get to read Runes.

I wasted my time. No one cares about spoiling it for people here. I should just stay out of KW for the duration.

how are you searching?
I tried to get all the posts for the past seven days but needed to put in a search word.

Not a solution but just wondering.

Sorry, I didn't put a spoiler in my thread topic, but I understand what you mean. It must suck. :\
Spoiler
But TC doesn't meet his son.

High Lord -- On the first page, at the top, you click "View new posts since last visit" or something like it. It's in really small print.

If it makes you feel better, one isn't a spoiler at all. The other...well, yeah. Some of us just don't think about these things, I guess.

spoilers in subjects

Sorry, I never had a chance to read your posts before I made mine. I tried to make it very general and appologize if it spoiled anything for you. I enjoyed the book and wouldnt want to ruin it for anyone else.
So please keep it in mind that some may not have had chance to read your posts, before you make generalizations about others and what they care about.

Perhaps one of the mods could put a sticky on this so it will stay at the top of the forum, and everyone can see it first thing? :)

I couldn't find it and I would like to.
Can you explain it to me like you would to a 10 year old?
:D

"first page" is the "search page"? or the "home page"?
I can't find it!
Arrgghhhh!!!!

And Wayfriend, not to be a total jerk but I kept away from this place for weeks before finishing the book knowing that there might be spoilers popping out at me.
I also stayed away from any Usenet groups that might have had people talking about SRD. There were a few posts on the Tolkien newsgroups that I literally shut my eyes and turned off my PC so I wouldn't see anything.
Stay away , read the book and come back. ;)

When I was still reading Runes I just stayed out of the Runes Forum all together and just used the little icons next to the threads to see if a new postings in that thread had occured from my last visit. I guess that doesn't help you now tho ... :3M:

High Lord -- I mean kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/index.php, "Kevins Watch Forum Index". At the top, there, to the right. Not by the big banner and the Home - Memberlist - etc things, but to the right. *nods* I can't explain better than that, sorry.

Wayfriend checks things out on the board the same way I do. On the upper right of the main page, by clicking "View Posts Since Last Visit", you get a list of threads that have been posted to since the last time you were logged on. It saves time by not having to go through the discussions that have no actviity. There is nothing that blocks the Runes threads from being posted there. Perhaps a message should be put on the home page to the effect that if you want to post a new topic about Runes, be careful about spoilers in the title.

I see it now! Thanks to you both. Now that I'm posting in a few different places it does make it easier.

I think the complaint is a fair one.

I've PM'd Jay to see if there is a way to add a profile option to exclude selected forums from the "posts since last visit" selection. I think many of us use this tool to more easily find the new posts.

Fair comment Wayfriend - my apologies.

I had no idea until today that the Runes thread titles can be seen outside of the forum, and I am really quite upset that people's enjoyment has been dampened in this way, not to mention SRD's huge efforts at working to entertain people are being shot in the foot.

Yet I don't see how a viable Runes discussion can be run *without* spoilers in the titles of the threads.

It is simply not practical to avoid spoilers in thread titles. What shall we use as titles "Guess the subject of this thread" ????

I've just tried the "View posts since last visit" feature myself, and seen spoilers for books that I haven't read.

The only way this can be successfully resolved is with re-programming, requiring every user to input what categories they would like to have presented to them when they use this feature.

That may take some time!

In the meantime, the sitemaster will need to implement the quick fix of placing an *expect spoilers on anything you haven't read!!!!* warning on the "View posts since last visit feature".

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Wayfriend and Duchess.

Also, it would be kind for new readers to have seperate First Chronicles and Second Chronicles forums. It is *unkind* not to.

Heck, what we really need is for each novel, in every series, to have its own forum!! Hey, it *MAKES SENSE*!!
