Chrons themes SRD got right

So lately I've been thinking how true it is that the people and events in our lives that have the greatest potential for hope carry with them the greatest potential for despair. This is throughout the Chrons, from Kevin, to Elena, to Trell and Mhoram, to TC himself (with the one word of truth or treachery he will save or damn the earth)...

And it seems like the worst betrayals come from your closest friends and family, etc.

Another thing that is true -- The only way to hurt a man who's lost everything is to give him back something broken.

And I was just wondering what other themes that SRD touches on have proven true in your experience?

Joy is in the ears that hear.
There is also love in the world.
Thos two go together in my mind and my heart...and they tell me that no matter how bad things may get from time to time, someday there will be love and joy and beauty once more... :)

Yep, that one in particular does it for me :)

My personal favorite is

"Madness is not the only danger in dreams."

It's kind of diasmal but I've always liked:
There's only one way to hurt a man who's lost everything. Give him back something broken.
But I LOVE this one for it's word choice:
Darkness withers the heart.

It may be that hope deceives, but hate - hate corrupts.

Here's another truism:
Castigation is a doom that achieves itself. In punishing yourself, you come to merit punishment.

Can't think of the exact quote right now, but:

"Do you truly believe that there is no difference between fighting to preserve the Land and fighting to destroy it?"

and

"You are the white gold."

Of course, I also like many of the ones already posted in this thread.

From 'The Illearth War,' Lord Mhoram:
"Then do you truly believe that there is no difference between fighting to destroy the land and fighting to preserve it?"
i like that one too.

Unfortunately, Believer, Stephen Donaldsons' theme that you speak of, has been a dominant part of my life for the past 4 years.
It is very, very, very true. The greater the capacity to help, the greater the capacity to harm. Don't I know. Save or damn. Don't I know ...

"Choiceless, you were given the power of choice."

Best resolution of the whole free-will controversy that I ever came across.

"Desecration may be survived or healed, but not denied."

Oh, my, yes -- you have to admit evil exists before it can be fixed; pretending it never happened, or isn't happening, will not work.
