I am enthralled. Its just a bit crepuscular. Donaldson gets the mood. Its dark and very dark at times.
But who is this guy that beats the shit out of Stave. A Bannor reference obviously. Any comments by half hand readers.

The Elohim. These guys have always been rather strange.

My initial feelings are positive. Donaldson is however a dark spirit. He mines the nasty pieces of life.
The prologue is very dark. The sever your hand bit was well almost too much.

And the torture of Anele. Remindiing us of Coventants pathetheic condition in LFB.
Violence rules this world. And of Esmer.............

I am back in the Land. The old geograhies of Mithil but then the new ones.
Brilliiant stuff.

The Bloodguard in all their pathetic loyalty. The Ramen in theirs.

This is a ride............ Be true!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you're enjoying it :D I agree that there were some very sinister elements in Runes. But SRD has never been afrid to mine the dark side.

(I hate to be a language pedant...yet I always do it...please keep the language suitable for those of a youthful nature. We have been known to have pre-teen members. Thanks.)

I'm not sure, I thought the first few chapters in the hospital etc with Roger were very gripping but whilst I am really enjoying it, I thought it plodded a bit until the scene on the mountainside when all of a sudden you get Ramen, Kresh and ur viles all at once. This is where I'm upto now. It is quite dark.

Cov Jr - what're you on about? Probably not intended, but came across a bit pompous.

That's what I'm talking about. It's not intended to sound pompous, just a word of advice. This is a family-friendly board.

I am 228 pages into Runes (not quite halfway) and I am thrilled. Nuff said. :D Of course I still have half a book to go but my expectations are very high.

Hey CJ.

I certainly get your point, but keep in mind too that we're discussing a book that has *very* strong language (Barton Lytton) in it, as well as extreme violence (beatings, murders, etc.).

Would have been interesting if Sherriff Lytton said, "Hellfire!" instead of those other things.

:-)

It's not my personal preference, it's the rules of the site.

Not exactly the rules (as I've argued many times), but the consensus. If I feel the need, I content myself with using a few well-placed asterisks, i.e. "s***." (personally, I hate sensorship, even self-imposed, but I do it for the people here).

PitchDude has a point, though. Considering the Language used in Runes, I think we need to take the PG rating off of the Runes discussion, at the very least.
