Gilden-Fire is the famous chapter about Korik of the Bloodguard and his mission to Seareach that was part of the original manuscript of The Illearth War, but omitted from the published version. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

For those whom have not read it. It can be obtained in "The Daughter of Regals" and other short stories
It is a treat.

I'm not sure if it would be wise to post Gilden-Fire in its entirety here, Cleveland. Shouldn't official permission be obtained first from Del Rey or whomever? We wouldn't want to get the Watch into copyright violation trouble.

Besides, ethically it should be up to SRD to decide whether or not he wants to release Gilden-Fire on the web, not us. And his website is a more appropriate home for Gilden-Fire than here. Sorry...I vote nay.

I vote nay as well.

SRD has been very gracious in allowing WatchMembers certain liberties with his published works. We do not want to offend him by posting his writings without his permission.

Besides, Gildenfire is now available as part of Daughter of Regal. I vote nay.

Nay for the same reasons as already stated.

Those priveleged members of the Watch that are in communication with SRD should lobby him to post it on his own website.

Yeah, I was gonna say, the reprint of DoR (from the new series of reprints with the gold ring covers) has it.

I thought it was only a copyright issue if you paid for it, maybe wrong. Of course I wouldnt just post it regardless.

Hows that? Fixed the problem.
How do you edit your Avatar Images to be much larger than most?
That info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The large avatars you see are made by Edge, one of our members. Just PM him if you would like your own custom-made Edgetar. He welcomes all requests. 8)

His creations are linked off-site, so they don't actually take up any space on KW itself and thus avoid the 100x100 size restriction.

QUESTION:

Why wouldn't SRD just release the version of The Illearth War that incorporates the "Gilden Fire" outtake into the story? I for one would pick up another copy of TIW if that were the case...

DAMN I don't know what I did with my copy of "Gilden Fire"... :x

Because it would mean that there would be too many perspectives in the story.

I see Gilden Fire sold separately on ebay. Is the standalone book version different from the version included in Daughter of Regals? Perhaps it is illustrated in the standalone version?

And Korik's perspective undermines Covenant's unbelief, which is very important throughout Lord Foul's Bane and The Illearth War. It would also be hard to fit it in seamlessly.

Besides, SRD never wanted it published in the first place. It was an accident, and he has stated that he feels bad that people pay money for something out of his wastepaper basket. That's why he included in Daughter of Regals in the first place.

No you don't... the illustrations in Gilden Fire were lame in my opinion... I didn't like the "warrior princess" appearance of Lord Shetra, and to me the stylized action of Korik leaping in front of an ur-vile just was laughable.

I wish I still had that book though - I could have scanned a couple of the drawings so you could see for yourself...
