War of the Worlds Films

Some years back I heard of an attempt to make a War of the Worlds movie. The premise was that the Martians win and humanity is enslaved. Then with 9/11 the film was put on hold and I despair. Now ten minutes ago I find out that Cruse and Spielberg are doing a film. At that point, warning bells start ringing. Then I despair once more; anyone who wants to Americanise the GREAT novel is being a fool, to be honest. They are missing out on the message of the book and the concept. I dont mind the 50s movie, but the ending is dreadful.
Anyway, I digress. Now there happens to be a second film reaching completion and it is faithful to the novel. I've seen some images and the Martians are accurate. The Martians in the Spielberg film are a joke, to be honest; suckers on fingers . . . Anyway, I am very very very excited about the film which is true to the novel.

Remember the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? The 2nd comic series was a rewrite od WOTW; I was kind of hoping they would make that version into a movie. But, a Tom Cruise/Steven Speilburg version may be very cool indeed.

A friend gave me the Comic series with Fu Manchu and his airship. I loved it. Then I recall the last page with the Martian Cylinders entering the atmosphere. My jaw dropped. Shame I never read the series.

The Pendragon version is completely faithful. Spielberg/Cruise version is modern day, so I am wary.

I understand. BTW, which version is the Pendragon? Is that the one that got put on hold? If the Spielberg/Cruise version is totally different, maybe they'll still make the Pendragon one anyway.

Pendragon got put on hold but they have finished it and it is due for release in March. Spielberg's version is due out a couple of months after.

Sorry for double posting, but I am very excited; WOTW was my childhood love - the books, the movie and the album.
