of course, I could've figured this out if i would've checked out the print page inside Daughter of Regals (first two) and Reave the Just (last)

but this got me to wondering... do we have any way to track if he released or will release any more short fiction in magazines?

any way to hit up Del Rey and ask for some kind of advanced notice of any SRD work going to print?... and maybe even get Jay an advance copy of the 3rd Chrons (not unheard of for fan site owners to get galleys) when it comes out?

An on a related note, does anyone know if the "After the King" anthology was the first publication of "Reave the Just"?

looking at the print information, i'd say that it's the only other place besides the book that it's been published. other stories list places where they were subsequently published.

Locus magazine might kno..they keep track of all sorts of weird little stats.

Are there copies of SRD's "Epic Fantasy in the Modern World" available? I've had no success finding one.

I found "Epic Fantasy in the modern World" a month ago. I've been looking for it for years and it is very difficult to obtain because it's only printed in 500 copies. It is published by Kent State University(as is W.A. Senior's "Variations of a Fantasy Tradition"). It's a little paper, that is a 20pgs booklet in a square format with 16 pgs of writing and in it SRD argues why he wrote TCTC amongst other things. It's published 1986.
And I found it on abebooks.com...where I find a lot of stuff...

It strikes me that he could be getting the benefit of this, instead of the secondhand booksellers, if he placed it with an ebook publisher. There are bound to be more than 500 fans who are interested enough and computer-savvy enough to buy it as an ebook. Not to mention, the cost to readers would be much less.

Yes Joy, an ebook would be a very good idea. Actually it is the most expensive secondhand book (or paper) I have bought. I paid $44 and that included shipping but I was so thrilled finding it and just could'nt resist it. By the way what's His Master's Thesis?...and another thing...I was looking at amazon.co.uk and checking out SRD (they are very thorough and lists I guess all SRD's different writings and editions that are both in print and OOP) , there are something like 140 hits and around 130, don't recall right now, I found something called "Stephen Donaldson 12 SW"... It doesn't say much about it...any idea?...

Much, it doesn't say anything at all. I tried plugging the ISBN number in at the Library of Congress website, and got a "no results". Abebooks.com says the ISBN number is not valid. I have no idea where to go from there.

Just a comment on SRD's work in anthologies...I have three, After The King with "Reave The Just", The Book Of Kings with "The Kings of Tarshish Shall Bring Gifts" and Berserker Base with "What makes Us Human". They all ended up in Reave The Just And Other Tales.

The first two here were edited by Martin H Greenberg and in the introduction to the Book Of Kings he mentions that he recieved this shortstory from SRD and decided to publish a collection on the theme of kings. He also writes a little about kings in general and their stories, like Richard III, Henry II and a scottish king named Donald Bane!...I guess this is the only place "The Kings..." was published before Reave The Just And Other tales. Martin H Greenberg was also the editor of After The King so maybe they are friends or something...

I wonder where Greenburg is editing these days. If they really are friends, he might be SRD's best chance to get RUNES into publication in near "director's cut" form. -- On the other hand, "editor objectivity" would take over once Greenburg got his hands on the manuscript, so this post is probably unrealistic.

I read "Epic Fantasy In the Modern World" today. I had expected my favorite parts to be his personal musings and anecdotes, but he doesn't write in that academic style which builds a wall between the scholar with his fellow experts, and the rest of the reading world. "Epic Fantasy" is quite accessible.

I want to reclaim the epic vision as part of our sense of who we are, as part of what it means to be human.

In "Epic Fantasy" Donaldson shows a grand vision. I am uplifted. I am proud of him.
