My first post... probably been posted a zillion times already but the new book was absolutely awesome. I'd been anticipating it for months and was given a preordered present of it in August for my birthday from a good friend who is also a big fan. SRD has surpassed himself - it was even better than I'd dared hope. As for the ending, has there ever been a bigger cliffhanger ? I don't know if the great man reads these posts but if he does, "more power to your elbow sir !!" Lastly, will there ever be a film/films about the Covenant books?

With regard to the people making the movies:

Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers are brilliant works of art. It's heartening to know this kind of talent will/may be working on a Covenant film.

Conversely, Independence Day was ridiculous, for about a billion reasons, most of which I'm sure everyone on this board is familiar with. Its saving grace, and perhaps the strength that the producer could bring to Covenant, is familiarity with special effects.

I thought ID4 was crap too. I wish they had had someone else destroy the mother-ship.

I would be a little leary of a TC movie. Too many people would compare it to LOTR and I don't think it would get a fair watching. I can see Exec. Producers mimicking Gollum for Drool and Sauron for Foul. The big castle (I can't remember what its called) in LOTR would look like Revelstone etc. I read LOTR after I had read both TCTC, and I thought it paled so much in comparison that I didn't really like them. For a lot of Fantasy and sf fans that's blasphemy, but I wasn't impressed. The characterizations in TCTC was so engrossing that at the finish and even today I miss Saltheart like a childhood pet. Sounds silly and looks even sillier writing it, but its true. I am afraid that a movie that doesn't match my preconceptions would be disappointing, and since it isn't possible for a director to read my mind...anyway, I like the books as books. Of course, if a movie did come out I would be the first in line and would sit by the exit and kick anyone in the a** who even mentioned LOTR on the way out!

And for the love of any deity, object or spirit you say your prayers to, lets not make this a political thread!
