I must thank those who are turned me toward buying A Game of Thrones. I'm still only 300 pages into it, (Amazon delivered it to me Wednesday in record time.) but it's the best fantasy I've read in a while. That explains my, relative, lack of posting the last couple of days. (Your probably thankful for that. :) :| )

I was reading it while I was on the train yesterday. When I read of where the Queen made Ned Stark kill his oldest daughter's direwolf, I got so mad that I had to put the book down for 10 minutes. I rarely have that reaction when reading.

Such well drawn, interesting, characters. Thanks for pointing me in this direction. :)

Just wait until you get to Storm of Swords. I has a screaming, book throwing, kicking tantrum!!

You also might want to check out the author's website at www.georgerrmartin.com where you can, among other things, order t-shirts with the crests of some of the major houses.

Also check out my response to LF at his Game of Thrones thread, please also feel free to drop in at the Hangar anytime. We have a Martin forum there, the mod is a really nice guy! :D

Ok, I went to pick up Neverness (i went to two different libraries... guess i'll have to try an inter-library loan), and nobody has it. Borders said they're out of print. now i gotta track em down.

just did a check at www.alibris.com and it seems most places have the 1st edition published by Grafton at about $60 (considering i only paid $40 for a signed first of WGW). that's impressive.

but why the heck is this book out of print? it's only been about 12 years.

I checked at www.powells.com and they said that they had Neverness in stock, used for $5.95.

Of course they can be like Amazon and say that they have it in stock until you order it, then say its out of stock and not due in for 2-3 weeks. As they are now doing to me on my order for Gardens of the Moon.

i found it for as low as $3.75; i was just surprised to see the 1st edition priced so high. if the price has increased %300 in less than fifteen years... i need to do some used bookstore shopping.

I got Neverness used from Amazon, it didn't cost too much and came right away, so I guess I got lucky! :)
The other three books in the series are still in print in England! I ordered those from Amazon, too, they took forever to get over the ocean, but those three books are completely awesome!!! Neverness is the intro to the following three books...
Neverness is a bit hard to get into right at the beginning...hang with it and you will be well rewarded. There is a whole thread dedicated to this over at the Hangar, so if you get discouraged, please pop over there and read the thread in the Zindell forum. And the rest of the series (well, to be honest, I've only finished two of the three books) ARE ABSOLUTE BUTT KICKERS!! :D :D
Danlo is just a wonderful character!
I just finished the middle book of the three Danlo books, called The Wild and it blew me away. :D :D If you like philosophy and theology mixed in with your science fiction, you will probably love Zindell.
:D :D :D

The first three books were excellent, 4-5 not so much.

I doubt we'll ever see 6, but I haven't given up all hope. No way we'll ever see 7.
