What a GREAT book! I got it sometime during the middle of January (don't remember when exactly) and read 100 pages a sit at times, till my head ached. I think that it was two weeks, in all, I spent reading it. If Clash of Kings is BETTER, then this is truly a treat... But one thing...

Why EDDARD?! He was my favorite, but now Tyrion and Jon have to take that place. I was so UTTERLY SURPRISED he was killed, and I was even more surprised to find myself so saddened--more saddened than any other fictional character had left me. Had I not thought the book had a pretty cover, I would have thrown the damned thing. I did punch a wall, though... It truly, strangely made me queasy and does so right now--as if someone had really died--when Joff showed off Ned’s head to Sansa...ARGH.... Poor thing... But why NED!!!*cry*

Okay, anyway, I don't know what else to say about the bloody book except it's a much easier read than Covenant (just about anything is), but it's nothing deep like Covenant. More of an entertainment novel than anything...

But I love it! And don’t post anything about the second or third book! I want to go into them clueless, I tell you! Clueless! Lookit, I did the exact opposite when I read Lord of the Rings *sighs* Anyway, I can’t tell what was my favorite part just yet...*mutters* I wish I had more to discuss about this book, but I’m sort of numb after reading it. It just left me awestruck--speechless--like PJ’s LOTR movies...

They get better and better!!! And I won't give you any spoilers!!
I think Danlo will be reading Storm of Swords over at the Hangar soon, maybe you could join him after you get done with Clash of Kings ??

Oh, how to avoid spoilers and still say what I want to... well, Duchess says better and better. I say that depends on how you look at it... let me say you might want to tether the next two books to something that will keep them from flying very far/hard... better yet, replace the dust jackets with bubble wrap. provides padding and relieves tension.

Is it just me, or is Martin trying to make Hamlet look light? Sure, Bill kills off all the characters, but at least he doesn't desecrate their corpses, swords, pets, etc.

I finished A Game of Thrones last night, and bought Clash of Kings today. I should be caught up through the series in about a week. I'll join your discussion then.

I figured that Ned was doomed. Littlefinger seems quite the sneak, and Joffrey is a little sh*t. Tyrion should have an quite a time with him. Daenerys is interesting. I look forward to following her story.

Damelon, be sure to check with Danlo. I'm not sure when he's starting ASOS, he recently finished ACOK.
Martin is saying on his website that A Feast For Crows should be done in September, so you guys can take your time and savor Storm of Swords.
And the new Hedge Knight story in Legends 2 will also supposedly be out this year, but I'm not sure of the date. If you like Targs, you might like Hedge Knight.

Once I get going on a book, if I like it, it doesn't take long to finish.


The hardest time is finding a paperback book of the series. Later, I'll post a link to an article I found at work about how Borders is starting to let publishers become "catagory captains", basicilly letting a selected publisher choose what to put on the shelves in a certain catagory. It's a common practice among supermarkets. I found it rather disturbing translating it to books.

Hmmm. That might explain a lot. We have these two huge flagship Borders in Ann Arbor (it's where the chain started) and sometime between late last summer and now, their science fiction/fantasy selection has started to really suck. The last few times I went to stores to search for specific books I've had to go to Barnes & Noble or use the internet, because Borders has such a small selection -- they'll have fifty copies of the books they have -- but they just don't have many books!

this is exactly what some people said would happen when the mom and pop bookstores started going under in the mid 90s. unfortunately, they were drowned out by people saying that competition can only improve selection and pricing. ha!

don't get me wrong. i love wasting a day at either borders or barnes & noble, but i realized a while ago that anything good will eventually start to suck if given enough time and a wide enough audience.

Well, yesterday I bought A Game of Thrones and so far I've reached the point where

. Very good, so far. I was a little put-off at first upon hearing the p.o.v.s were multiple (that is sometimes a problem for me), but so far I'm having no real trouble keeping things straight.

Seems to me the Seven Kingdoms are in serious trouble, as in rumblings before a volcano blows up. The Lanisters remind me a bit of the Woodvilles (English history) and the Claudians (Romans). I'm probably not the only person to note the name--Lanisters were the trainers/overseers of Gladiators in Rome. Universally despised.

Though it could be possible, but if so, it wouldn't be incest, sorta. Jon could be Brandon's kid, I think. If he does become lord of Winterfell, it would definately cement his hold (consider Rob's decree of legitimizing Jon), Stannis's offer, etc. Personally, I'd rather see him stay Lord Commander of the Watch.

the love child of Lyanna Stark and Prince Rhaegar, and that he might end up with Dany, which would be aunt/nephew incest, I suppose. Yuck! There really is too much incest in these books. Ugh!

No way would Ned have been sexually involved with his sister. Just not his style. Honor and all of that. You can put those fears to rest, IMHO.

I just bought Game of Thrones yesterday. It was hard to see these posts and not read the spoilers! NO MORE SPOILERS! I want to be able to read for the first time!

Anyway, it is a pretty cool book. I am enjoying it. Thanks to Danlo and Duchess for recommending it to me.
