Shuttle Breaks Up on Re-Entry; Crew Feared Dead
The space shuttle Columbia -- the oldest in the fleet -- breaks up over Texas as it prepares to land in Florida Saturday morning. The seven crew members aboard, including the first Israeli astronaut, are feared dead. Debris believed to be from the spacecraft is found in east Texas.

I remember when the first one exploded in 1986. I initially thought it was a hoax because that particular radio presenter at the time was known for pulling the mickey out of everybody and everything.

It's not something I expected to ever happen again though

Of course - I never expected Concorde to crash either and hopefully they're still in the air when I finally am able to fly in one.
