A higher plane of reality

The land...a higher plane of reality, a different dimension.

But is it a better one than ours?

You know the Karma thing, you come back as a higher animal, start off as a slug and end up a man, after a long spiritual evolution and many births. Well

The Universe that the Land occupies, what is the outer space like. I mean, the sun shines in the land, so it has a normal type sun, a nuclear reaction type thingy. It has gravity, this 'land Universe' appears to have many similar micro organisms in it, people die, are born. Is the planet of the land in a solar system? Do other planets, far off in the void of space have the same ethereal properties as the 'land' planet? What in heavens name is a Universe like that has the 'land' planet in it?

Lord Foul has a connection in 'our earth'. Does our 'Judeo Christian God' have a connection in the 'land' does 'our devil', is Lord foul our devil?

Is the 'land' planet just a 'one off' in a normal, bland, otherwise dull Universe. Lord Foul has connections to the land, hell, the arch of time is very connected to the 'Land' planet..

Is the whole 'Land' universe empty? Just one sol, just one planet, a jewel in the black void, all of the living energy of a universe concentrated in one place. Any mention of stars in the night sky in the books (can't remember at the moment).

If I were to die now, I would like 'the land' to be my heaven, to be my final destination...

Forgive this rambling post, I am just thinking out loud.

Go ahead and ramble, nocturne. I think we've all disgorged our thoughts onto the Watch at one point or another and made fools of ourselves. It's some kind of initiation rite, maybe. :P

I think your reflections on the nature of that other universe are very interesting, but as SRD likes to say when dealing with these kinds of "outside" questions, we're going far beyond the "text" of the Chronicles. So, really, anything is possible. Imagining the planet of the Land and other possible planetary systems in that cosmos is fun, but trying to talk about the science of it all seems at a tangent to what the Chronicles are about. How does one think about the hard physics of magic without it breaking down? Do we invoke quantum mechanics to explain the behaviour of the wild magic at the subatomic level? If the Earthpower is an energy field that permeates that universe, then is it merely a variant of our familiar electromagnetic force, just operating under physical laws that contain slightly different universal constants than our own, allowing it to behave the way it does? What strange laws of physics allow masters of lore to call up heat and fire from wood and stone without destroying the source?

Great, now you've got me rambling. What a silly can of worms. :)

If SRD read this, he'd be rolling his eyes, I'm sure.

I take on board your comments, Sir Matrixman(a worthy fellow indeed)

Overthinking is one of my big failings.

I enjoyed your rambling..SRD probably would give us a hearty guffaw and tell us to take it easy on the coffee...

Now I shall think about the nature of the Universe some more, think about how the umpa lumpas fit into the evolvutionary timeline of man, figure out if big bird is related to a dodo, if the moon really could be made of cheese and oh yes, if the star trek transporter is the biggest killer in the history of the federation (it destroys souls with it's ersatz devil copies)

on the other hand, maybe I shall drink a nice half pint of british bitter shandy with a ploughmans lunch in the local pub.

on with the reading of the runes...

Me too!

I am of the mind that whatever you believe your ultimate reward to be is what you will find after death. Whether it be Heaven, the Summerland, Val Hala etc. I think I'll start hoping for the land...........

during the second chrons, SRD went into the legend(or whatever) of the Wyrm of the Worlds end...how the world was just a...umm...well, i dont want to type a spoiler or anything, but those that have read it are familiar with what im talking about...and he described it in a planetary/universal sense(meaning how the world the Land is on relates to the rest of the universe)...not really adding much to the discussion i guess, but somethin to take into consideration with whats being talked about

again, i dont have my books on hand at the moment...theyre in storage in Indiana, and im in Florida...so...

It would be cool if, when I died, I ended up in the Land, not long before the events in Runes, and I started talking about what the Land used to be. The Masters would be like, "Huh? Who is this stranger who knows so much about the past, and can start a fire without flint or tinder?" Well, maybe not the flint & tinder part, but it would be cool to show up knowing all that we know from the books. heh The Masters would have to imprison me, but my stories would spread. No longer would the people of the Land be ignorant of their birthright!

Maybe SRD would consider a similar idea for The Epilogue Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.

Hey, hold on.

I don't know much but I know what love is...

No No No, that's a song being played on the radio at the moment.

Hold on again.

All this talk about the land and equating it with a Nirvana type afterlife. We could be wrong, it's all a matter of perspective, it could be hell. Not a higher plane of reality at all, but a lower one. A land where your senses get overstretched, like staring into the sun all day, no hint or dream of the miraculous 'cos the miraculous is an everyday day thing, a mere mundane reality.

Where true incarnate 'evils' stalk the land, not the evil in man’s heart that troubles this world, but stand up black and white entities of super badness. Hitler & Stalin made god like with supernatural powers...Sad hams able to inflict trouble thoughts into the mind of men and women throughout the globe.

We are through the looking glass here people, the conspiracy is becoming clear.

The Land... have I been fooled all this time?.

Help me, my reality is in trouble.

"The time has come, the walrus said
To speak of many things.
Of sailing ships and sealing wax,
And whether Cavewights have wings..."

Ramble away!

"Silence!" the king of the turtles barked back.
"I'm king, and you're only a turtle named Mack!"

“It was so kind of you to come!
And you are very nice!”
Fist and Faith said nothing but
“Cut us another slice:
I wish you were not quite so deaf—
I’ve had to ask you twice!”
