A Consideration

..Hello, newbie here and am of the thought, having not witnessed its utterance in the posts so far reviewed; consider, " Lord Foul Has My Son!", repeated often and half of the conflict facing the Chosen.
..It occurs to me that ,,that refrain, " Lord Foul Has My Son!"..could be the refain of all parents,,as their "kids" enter into the teens. It seems to me, Jeremiah, at the awkward age, in his " faux" autruistic" state..could also be the perspective of an adult dealing with a " teenager" beyond reach.
..I see much empahsis on time and the whole transporting of the Demondim to " correct time" as baggage brought forth to deal with the classic issue of off spring entering their teens. The need for the Staff of Law is obvious. The Chosen's need for all the help she can get from the various groups and characters,,etc,,etc. Of course, her constant struggle to go beyond what has been done before,,to save her son from the deprevations of the despiser,,suggests the possible struggles and,,suggested perpsective entailed when a parent is tasked by their offspring. Questions arise. Love versus Reality?,,dealing with the " pain" of Love,,as it is inflicted on oneself and as it is inflicted by oneself?..Love and Freedom?,,at what point does a parent know when to let up on the Law and allow some freedom?..
..Thinking along those lines leads me to ominous ponderages of, the power of honesty, truth amongst friends and family when " problems" are dealt with above board..The suggested,, the Chosen doesn't have all the answers,,and must depend on others for support in her crisis,,while at the same time exploring new territory within herself,,strikes me , so far,,as some hidden magic not far under the plot line..Her constant refrain,," whats next?"..suggests the need to constantly evolve.
...Nobody is perfect. This concept is the Modern Romantic notion. See the originator, Goethe.,,yea, the original Lord Foul,,Mephistopholies(spl). Perfection,,or at least the belief that it is obtainable,,is all wrong. Life is all about evolving,,constant search,,constant exploring,,boldly going.
..TC's arrival at end does not bode well. He is dead. He can no longer evolve. Jeremiah,,well,,we'll see. But, I see TC's appearence as something Avery has to learn a lesson about...Enuf from the Yik Yakker of the E-urarn. Any parents out there seeing the parallels?.......MEL

"TC is dead; he can no longer evolve"?? Not so fast, lurch. I think TC's evolution is still going to be one of the main plots of the Last Chrons.

Other than that -- interesting post! I have teenaged daughters, and I kind of see what you're saying. To extend your analogy, one might argue that epic fantasy as a genre is pretty much adolescence writ large: get a whole bunch of friends together, go out and have a big adventure, come up against some pretty scary stuff, and come out the other end all grown up -- or, at least, survive.
