I'm currently listening to the Roger Waters live DVD, In The Flesh. It's an amazing show--far better than I expected. The first couple songs they do felt a little forced, dry, but then, after that, they really take off. Shine On really blew me away, as well as the sax solo on "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun".

Now, all they need to do is make an official PULSE DVD, and I’ll bet set for life!

i have Gilmour live on DVD. I have the doc on the making of the Dark Side Of The Moon. and the Pink Floyd In Pompei on dvd.

Awesome collection! Pompeii is my personal favorite. I love seeing Waters get so into it while he's hitting those cymbals and that gong during Saucerful of Secrets. They seemed to love making music so much--a shame they ended up the way they did!

Gilmour live on DVD is incredibly good, as is the making of Dark Side DVD that you mentioned. I haven't seen the others.

I have so many live DVDs/CDs....but what I'm watching alot now is Eric Clapton's 24 Nights and Crossroad Benefit.

Disturbed's Music as a Weapon II live cd-not bad. Prefer seeing them live though. Its a 2 disc edition which includes live concert footage on dvd-thats good to watch.
I also have one of their live DVDs which is much better.

I have NIN's And all that could have been live cd-very good-i really enjoy listening to this one.

I also have a live DVD of Apocalyptica's. They are a Finnish band who are known for their Metallica covers on cello. I love how they sound and some of their own compositions are really great to listen to and watch. Its a 4 disc set so lots of extras which is nice.

I am sure I have a couple more but can't think of them right this second...

Which ones have the best sound in your collection? Pulse isn't bad. The Led Zepplin is amazing, considering how old the source tapes are. The KC Eyes Wide Open is astonishingly good. But my favorite is the Rush R30 DVD. Fantastic recording made only a few years ago.

I prefer the stereo PCM mix on the Bela Fleck DVD. Much better resolution. Higher highs, lower lows, and . . . middler?. . mids.

As much as I love the Zeppelin DVD, it's a cheat.

In a nutshell, stuff was pieced together from different performances and "cleaned up" to provide the final product. IOW, the DVD is not representative of an actual Zeppelin performance (as anyone who's heard an undoctored bootleg can attest).

Honestly, the cuts and such don't bother me. From what I've read of your link (didn't read it all), it sounds like they cut a few sloppy bars here, smoothed over Robert's voice there . . . no big deal. Sure, it's not 100% accurate of that particular performance. But we're talking about a band that doesn't tour anymore. If this were a band still going, and they were doing this kind of manipulation to their previous tour, well, that's not right. But to me this is like restoring old paintings. A little touch-up work is necessary.

Actually, reading a bit more, I think this sort of thing happens all the time. Many of the edits were patched together from different consecutive nights of the same location on the same tour. Isn't this why bands record multiple nights when preparing a DVD? In case something goes wrong and they can use material from either night?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not slamming it at all, just calling it what it is.

Any Zeppelin is good Zeppelin, but it is funny watching the bootleg Knebworth show, then comparing it with the DVD.

I remember reading those for Song Remains the Same... and marvelling at how much time it would've taken the guy to poke around to determine all the cuts and source material.

I love DVD too, and the cuts don't bother me. I'm used to bootlegs with glitches, bad notes, etc. but I kind of expect official releases to sound better. The amazing thing is how intricately some of the songs are cut and pasted (read the SRtS analysis...) I doubt there's a single live album in existence that doesn't have *at least* few patches to cover up a bad vocal or guitar (not counting the Dead's Dick's Picks or the "real live" releases that bands like Pearl Jam, String Cheese, The Who, etc. are doing nowadays).

IIRC, the Knebworth bootleg is a different show than the one on DVD.

Yeah, the bootleg is the second show, the DVD is primarily the first.
