The first trailer for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is now up on amazon.com:

Though I find all the american accents pretty annoying, Martin Freeman definately looks like he'll do a good job as Arthur Dent, and the Vogons look pretty good. Pity we don't get any dialogue from Marvin - Alan Rickman seems a good choice, but I'd like to hear how well he pulls it off.

If his deadpan comedic performance in Galaxy Quest is any clue, Rickman should make for a memorable Marvin. :)

I'm out of touch. I had no idea a movie of Hitchhiker's Guide was upon us. I'll still wait for the reviews before seeing it, though. The original BBC radio production is the "sound" of The Hitchhiker's Guide in my mind, so the American accents seem out of place to me, too.

Ooh, I'm glad the reviewer was so happy with it. I'd have to go cry if the movie was terrible.

Thanks, Wayfriend! Looks like I may have to check out the movie after all, judging by Quint's enthusiasm.

I'm surprised that it's Disney that bankrolled this project. Hitchhiker fans must have had visions of sing-a-longs in the movie. Going by the early review, it looks like the film is faithful to the spirit of the books, which is the least one should expect from any good adaptation. So I'm pleased.

But still...an Arthur/Trillian love story?

That equation does not add up to 42, I don't think.

That's probably the Disney influence. They are rather steamrollerish on their insistence that movies follow formulae. 'There must be a love interest' being one. ('There must be the funny sidekick' being another which has ruined a movie or two.)

Hey, Adams is pretty well known for his tendency to change a story around every time it's told in a new medium, so it's possible that he was the original architect behind the increased love story stuff...I'm glad to hear that the movie is a good one; I'm sure to take time to see it on May 6 (or April 29, or whenever the hell they finally decide to release it in America) with towel in tow.

There's a lot more stuff, including another (positive) review, over on AintItCool.com.

Alan Rickman as Marvin... yes, brilliant. I have to say that this is one of the things I'm looking forward to the most. He has the perfect voice and inflection for it. *does a fangirl swoon* I'm sad, no?

New Trailer.

Marvin's voice. The Guide's voice. Other stuff.

Edit: UK Trailer here. Ths one's better than the US trailer above. Really. Even has the old theme tune at the end.
Seeing this one, I have to say that they got Marvin's voice perfectly.

He has two heads - the second one is under the first, for some reason.
