Game idea

A TCTC-based game, but not a MUD. As I've been investigating several diplomacy/world-building games during the last days, I thought of creating one set in the Land.

The setting would be some time after the Second Chronicles. The players would take the roles of the leaders of various factions - the New Lords, maybe divided into different factions themselves, Giants, Haruchai, survivors of the Clave, Waynhim, Ur-Viles, Brathair settlers ...

The game would take place in several forums where the players exchange 'public announcements', describing their open actions (like trying to settle in a certain area, researching lore, sending envoys to other factions) and reactions to general, game-master controlled happenings - what if the Ravers spread mayhem, what if someone finds one of old Kevin's wards, what if a plague spreads?

Personally, I wouldn't want it to be a pure RPG. I'm sick of the usual ones taking place in every fandom online already, so this game wouldn't be a kind of fiction writing contest with yourself in the hero role. Still, role-playing would be part of it all, since your announcements would be written in character.

There could be a limited management factor. Like, your faction has x resources of different kinds, what do you do with them? Build farms and houses, buy weapons, trade?

Well, so much at first thought, what do you say?

Oh man, it's been <I>years</I> since I've played Diplomacy! I love that game!!

I'd <I><B>DEFINITELY</I></B> be interested in your Covenant game. I'd help if I knew anything about computers. All of you see the limits of my abilities with these devil-machines.

Sorry, I didn't mean the game Diplomacy itself, just games involving diplomacy in general.

Well, I didn't have a full-fledged RPG in all, as I don't like them much (the web-based kind, I like pen & paper RPGs).

I'm working on a simple strategy game. Since I can't program one inch it has to be human-moderated. Very much like a board game where the players email the gamemaster their turns and he calculates the results and sends them back turn reports. Background story and terms from the Chronicles with player interaction not neccessarily connected to actual game mechanics, so everyone can do as much or less role-playing as he wants. One who's only interested in the strategy part just ignores the role-playing.

Sounds amazing! I'd be interested in playing, but I can't program a peanut, so no use on the practical side I'm afraid

It can (and has) been done...hehehe

Like any game it's relevant to the players and desired 'enviroment', the rest is of course scripting and programing.

We've been running a game server for a little over 3 years now, it takes a LOT of work and time but it is also very rewarding and a lot of fun...

Just a few tips for what it's worth, there really is no 'wrong' way of doing it.

* Stay true to your vision, there is nothing that can't be done...

* Investigate the world of EMU's (emulators), there is a LOT out there to work from versus starting something from scratch...

* Involve your player base in the development process, the bane of most games is that they do not truly listen to their players....

* Expect long, sleepless nights once you have established a player base as once you build it they WILL come from the strangest places you could ever imagine....
