Something that came up in the trivia thread, believe it or not.

In the Second Chronicles we hear of the Seven Hells: Desert, Rain, Pestilence, Feritility, War, Savagery, and Darkness.
We all know what the first four were. The Sunbane allowed Foul to bring Desert, Rain, Fertility and Pestilance to the breadth of the Land. What of the others?
In the first chronicles, and earlier in the fight with Kevin, Foul brought War to the Land. It could be argued that he also brought Savagery through the mechanism of war itself.
What of Darkness? The final volume in the Chronicles is called The Last Dark.
Do you think the legend of the Seven Hells could turn out to be as relevant to the Last Chronicles as it was to the Second?

...yes...SRD has made it clear much of the 2nd Chronicles is to be made clear in these, the last.
...I am amazed at what some have found to be the big Spoilt...Unfortunatley what has been bandied about as the big Spoilt,,imho..is only half...so if you care not to know my opinion,,and I'm sure i'm not the first ...but this is your last chance to turn away...
....Still with me?...okay...if Thomas C and lord Foul are just different aspects of the same personage...( the interior landscape perspective)..then,,,Thomas C would also be God,,or A God,,in the Land as well..of course,,from Berrick all the way to the Arch Of Time...Obviously SRD has him as a flawed God,,which works well within the Modern Romantic Notion...So,,since theres so much Father and son and Mother and Son business about now in the Land...like any father should,,,there will be a effort to pass the wisdom and love from one generation to the other...Does one sit the youth down and say, "Now you listen to me young man"..?..or allow the experience of consequences of decisions made,,teach the worthy values of life?..or some combination of each? the point I am trying to reach is that with the "hyper' reality of the Land...i expect wrenching struggle,,which just may include all 7 hells and possibly a few more..As with many successful parents..i suspect " compassion" ( a Godly Virtue),,,is what will counter and triumph over any further exploration of the 7 hells.....imho.........................MEL

Seriously though, I hope SRD doesn't try to rehash the ending of the "Chronicles of Narnia" by burning down the world and starting over.

That would be pretty disappointing to me.

Even if Donaldson were to have such an ending, I am sure that he would make it very much his own.

It will just turn out to be another damn paradox TC will both save and damn The Land-you can almost put that in the bank-but I will enjoy the hell out reading how he gets there.

Well, Linden is a spineless coward, given to way too much introspection. She has both the Staff of Law and a white gold ring, but decided fighting Demondim isn't important - it's nappy time????? Coward.

Yes!!!! This was exactly what I was thinking when they brought up the subject of the Seven Hells. In the second chronicles we get the impression that the Seven Hells and the story of a-Jeroth was simply a distorted history or cosmology; but what if there is some kind of truth to all this? It may be that Foul simply made manifest what was the interior truth of his Fall.
Also,as it is known the SRD has drawn some of his concepts from world myth and religion it bears saying that the number seven was one of the most important numbers in myth and religion. It is believd that this goes back to ancient astrology when only seven celestial bodies were known. In the Book of Revelation you have the seven angels that stand before the throne of God, and in some of the Grnostic myths there are seven Archons that created the world. In the pre-monotheistic cultures of the fertile crescent they spoke of the seven demons who plagued mankind, and the seven celestial spirits who attende the great gods of the heavens.

Although really, I think in this case it's partly because 'a-Jeroth of the Seven Hells' has such a wonderful rhythm to it, and fits the meter of the poem about the Master and Diassomer Mininderain.

It all rather reminds me of 'There's a one-eyed yellow idol to the north of Katmandu'.

I always wondered why the Little Yellow God did not replace his eye after slaying Mad Carew.

Why all the anti Linden sentiment?

Anti-Linden?... not form me. I am enjoying her interactions with the Land more than TC.
A coward, someone called her?....! sheesh... By what measure does this person state this (unless there was sarcasm intended not carried by the written text). By this measure, TC would also be considered a coward, but I don't think either of them is. It takes far greater courage to stay one's hand though they have power, and find an alternate solution, rather than striking out at a moments notice of any antagonism...
