What's in a name?

Have you ever reflected upon your name or names and wonder what they mean and why you were named as such? What about nicknames?
Ok, Teresa Ann means a God-given Harvester. You put in my Confirmation name, Marie, and it means a bitter God-given harvester. I've always imagined this old rusted out tractor sitting in the middle of a deserted field.
I was almost named Elizabeth which has something to so with God but I can't remember specifically. I was also almost named Gloria which means Glorious.
Did I get these names? Noooooo, because my dad knew an Elizabeth and a Gloria in school that were really mean, so he picked Teresa.
I am a bitter God-given harvester.
Hmmm....
In high school (Catholic) I was nicknamed Mother Teresa because I was really sweet, told really good stories (espeically at senior retreat where they asked me to tell a bedtime story... one that I had written in creative writing class and they all said I woould make a really good mom one day), I didn't cuss, drink, etc. I got my feelings hurt really easy so when one of the kids called me Mother Teresa she pointed out it was not meant to hurt me or offend me. It was better than being called goody-goody.
Hmmm...
Now I have morphed into Mama T and the T stands for tough cuz Mama T don't take nothing off no one. Well that is according to all the kids.
They also say that the T stands for terrific and talented. That's right... who's da mom? That would be me! My friend Charlene is Mama C and the kids joke that the C stands for crazy and crabby. lol
Hmmm...
I named Alex Alexandra meaning savior of mankind and Andromeda after the galaxy/constellation/woman resuced by Perseus and Pegasus. I call her monkey head and goober monkey head... also jibberjabberjaws. So far she lives up to each of those names... although not sure about the saving mankind though. She wants to save endangered species and the Earth (tree hugger) so I guess it still applies.
I named Calli Callista after the most beautiful woman in Greek Mythology and Anastasia which means she shall rise again. Long story about reincarnation which we suspect. I also call her Calliboo and Callico Kitty. She also lives up to her names... well the reincarnation part is a strong feeling and I think she is pretty darn gorgeous. She is soft, gentle and sweet like a kitten and when you make her mad she yowels really loud. She also does what I call the "hey Moe" when she drops to the floor and spins around in a temper fit.
Nick... man what can I say. He is Nicolas George Raven. He is named Nicolas because Alex said that was his name. She would not budge on that. He is George after his uncle, George Bannerman III. And he is Raven because of his mystery and magic. As my sis-in-law said (the Catholic/Shaman) he doesn't need magic, he is magic. She says the girls have magic, but polar opposites and he is the balancing force. He really seems to balance things. He draws out responsibility in Alex (where she lacks) and brings the joy of living to Calli (who was always too serious for a baby). He is Nick Da Man because... he IS da man! He walks with a confident swagger starting from the first day he walked... head held high, Fonzie strut, right arm swinging casually by his side, and now he can even snap his fingers and he is only 3! He refers to himself as a Butt or a Turd... I hate to admit it, but he lives up to those names too. He also says I should sell him to the gypsies. Calli named him Bubby when she was very little because she did not speak very clear until she was 5. It sounded like Nickwicks or bebebrudder... the later was turned into Bubby. He is a Nick Da Man and a Bubby Man.
Ok I know what I was thinking with my kids, but what were my parents thinking? I have reched peace with my name. I used to hate it. It still doesn't feel quite right to me though.
Ok here endeth the ramble.
