A Clash of Kings

Welp, either I wanted to finish it before my birthday (which is today) for some reason, or I just couldn't STOP reading this damn fine epic! Although, I wasn't shocked by much of what went on in the book. I think the reason for that is the
Spoiler
death of Ned
sort of desensitized me, and so I expect just about anything now...just about...*sighs* Oh well, but, the book is a superior effort over Thrones, I think. Just that I've heard folks say "you can read Kings without reading Thrones, or, more commonly: read Thrones and jump right to Swords." Well, maybe nothing much happens aside from a LOT of action. Seemed the most important event was the addition of Melisandre into the plot fold.

Anyway, stunned again by Martin's writing (he holds nothing back--and I mean nothing). I'm also stunned I've read nearly 2000 pages in a little over a month. Ah, the power of cheese--I mean Martin...

happy b-day

:S |G :S

i wouldn't recommend skipping anything. it'd be like skipping a course of a 5 course meal. you'll already want more by the time you finish Storm of Swords... of course, if you've made it that far i think it means you're a bit of a sadist, anyway.

woke up thinking of Jaqen H'gar (sp?) this morning. no clue why. valar morghulis.

Happy Birthday, Lord Foul! Please don't skip over any of Martin -- he has so much foreshadowing and dreams and the like, he warns you of all of the major upcoming events.

Oh, I was actually sniggering at the thought of skipping anything. Wait a tic, I said "snigger"! Martin bug really does have me, make no mistake now...

By the way, the birthday boy's achtzehn today...

Oh, and my birthday wish was that Barristan Selmy and Syrio Forel  came back to do some damage to that snotty little PRINCE (that's right, I said PRINCE, Joffery! Watcha gonna do about it?!)

And OH once more: my favorite birthday present was a nice big sloppy...copy of Storm of Swords! *Laughs Foul-like*

I was reading A Clash of Kings on the train Friday evening, and was asked by an acquaintance who was sitting a couple of seats behind me if I was reading the Bible? :) I guess he stopped by the bar in the station before we left. :D

Finished Clash of Kings last night.
Spoiler
Glad to see that little schmuck Theon got what he deserved.
Will now wait for Amazon to send the paperback of Storm of Swords in March.

call me contrary, but
Spoiler
i had more respect for Theon afterwards. i wouldn't have made some of the same decisions as he did, but i'm not ironborn (whether or not I Am Ironman is another question). i understand him and feel more sympathy than distaste for him.

if you disliked everybody who made poor choices in the books, there would be very few characters left to like.

OK, your contrary. :)

To each their own. Actually:
Spoiler
I have some sympathy for the Hound. Sure he's nasty, but he has good reason to be that way.

Syl, you have an excellent point. Many characters in this series make poor choices, and pay horrendous prices for them, especially in A Storm of Swords.
Spoiler
I wanted to slap Robb in particular upside the head!! But we can't discuss that any farther, 'cause we can't spoil things for Foul, Damelon, or Danlo!

Oh, well, I found out what happened to Robb thanks to stupid Amazon.com...the UK site, that is. They told the whole :x thing. No matter...
Spoiler
For me, nothing will ever shock me as much as the "Ned incident". He felt like the main character at times, too!
Update: finished the book last night, anyway, so doesn't much matter about Amazon.com anymore...

Tyrion - i am begininng to like this little Imp.
