Supposed to be a record-breaking heatwave this week. As much as I could use the hours, I'm glad I won't be in the warehouse that has no AC. That's going to be brutal, and the system was completely destroyed by copper thieves and the company is not going to pay to fix/replace it since they're on the brink of bankruptcy.

Expecting snow on the mountains, which is ridiculously early. Min temps are dropping like a stone. Bloody winter.

Since Sunday, we have had extreme lightning, some rain, and now it's snowing ash because half the state is on fire again. 'On fire' counts as a form of weather here. The lightning was highly unusual though.

Kinda warm here in Santa Fe, but the big problem is the unhealthy air quality due to a forest fire burning northwest of the city. So I feel for ya, Sorus.

My new game is, "Is this red map from COVID, air quality, or things that are on fire?"

...it's not a very fun game.

We've had a bout of unusually windy, stormy weather for the time of year; earlier it'd been horrendously humid for a period - the the kind that keeps you awake at night with your bed clothes sticking to you and gives you a headache - but the storms we had after it were not the usual kind of 'air clearing' affairs that normally follow such weather. More autumnal affairs that signal the beginning of winter - except it isn't.

Odd.

Spring is on the way, so warming up nicely. On the downside, they think that the rain, which used to start in September / October may not happen until Feb or March next year, so that's a bit worrying.

They're making us wear KN95s at work because of the smoke. Which is impressive, because this company pinches pennies until they squeak, but the smoke is that bad. Definitely more protection than the basic cloth masks, but what a relief to take it off after 10 hours. I don't even notice the cloth ones anymore, but the heavy-duty one fits like a suction cup.

On the bright side, Lightning Storm 2.0, which was supposed to hit us last night, decided not to hit us. How nice of it.

I have relatives there. Hoping everyone is all right.

The smoke here wasn't too bad yesterday when I went out to run errands, but the wind must have shifted. I poked my head out the door earlier this afternoon and smelled it. Bah.

That said, our fire isn't nearly as bad as the ones in Colorado and California. Ours is currently 2700 acres and 18% contained. It's burning in the national forest north of town.

This is all kinda new to me. And I'm getting a little tired of people on my FB page who see my comments about new-to-me things like waking up to the smell of smoke and reply, "Welcome to the West." Give the newbie some slack, why don't ya?

Fire danger season has always been a thing in CA. Half the state being on fire has not. Snowing ash in SF wasn't a thing until a couple of years ago, and it's really not okay. We may be forced to normalize it, but I'm not there yet.

Waiting to see where the hurricanes land.

Our concern would be wind damage. We don't flood in this part of town.

Even if it hits Houston we should be OK. We are a good 30-40 minutes from the gulf. It doesn't flood where I am. The river is on the other side of town, as are the bayous. I worry about wind damage and losing power.
