Well, I've been meaning to read this book for some time now. I think back in junior high we read a few passages from the story in English class and maybe some references to the book in our history courses.

But wow, this book is very interesting. Lays bare a lot of themes, most of which are unpleasant, such as the persicution and vile treatment of slaves leading up to the civil war. The characters are vivid and life like.

For those that have never read this book, I suggest you do, but keep in mind the time in which it was written, not for the faint of heart, a lot of unpleasentness, but worth reading, a good historical fiction of the instution of slavery and its treatment of humanity. Cheers.

Nice post FizbansHat. ;) Don't know why I missed it before. You've pretty much covered it though, so nothing really to ad except that it can be a tough read. I struggled with it the first time. Been so long in fact, I think I should read it again.
