It's so nice to be back!
I'll post a recap and some pictures of my trip once I get them all in my photobucket, if you guys are interested in seeing them.
My science team did abysmally. We only beat Wyoming and North Dakota
Ahhh, good old KW. I missed you guys!

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.
Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.
Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.
Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)
Yeah we tease her a lot cause we've hot her on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

Welcome back, Claire. Welcome back to the land of pie and cake.
It feels odd to say that, since you're actually further away than you were before

I love science, but hated the whole science fair thing in school. Guess I prefer to read about science than do the work, heh.
Anyway...welcome back, TLF!

We (my parents, Kelley and I) arrived in Frankfurt and went to get our rental car. We had reserved an audi but it was taken so they were going to give us a mercedes with gps and everything... until we told them we were going to the Czech Republic. They weren't even going to give us a car... apparently theft is a huge problem, but then they decided that they could give us a crappy Opel van thing.
The first two days we stayed in a small German town called Rothenburg. It was cute enough, but I spent most of the time recovering from jet lag. Kelley and I went to a pub just because we could.
Then we drove to Pilsen. Watching my mom drive on the autoban was freakin' hilarious.
We've had two foreign exchange students from Pilsen so we stayed with them. They're the closest things to sisters I have. Czech has to be the most ridiculous language ever. I think they have a vendetta against vowels.
We spent two days in Prague and then went back to Pilsen. Everyone treated us so well. We instantly became part of the family. They are amazing cooks

*drool*
Unfortunately we had to leave the Czech Republic (it was my favorite place). We made our way across Germany towards Belgium. We stopped in Bacharach, on the Rhine river for two days and drank some amazing wine.
In Belgium we stayed with our first exchange student and her family. The next morning we got on the super fast train to Paris. It goes about 300km/hr and we got to Paris in an hour and a half. We spent the day walking around, trying to see as much as possible. The Louvre was my favorite... it's so incredible. We also went up the Eifel Tower. It's not as romantic as they would have you believe.
Kelley had a nasty expirience in a cafe. The unisex bathroom had a door, then a room with a sink and a mirror, then a door and another room where the toilet was. She went into the first room and was fixing her hair when this nasty man came out of the bathroom and started talking with her in french. He told her that she was charming and kissed her quickly on the mouth before just walking out

Ewww....
We came back that night on the fast train again. My boyfriend, Aaron, had taken the train from his base to the station and met us there

He spent 3 days with us in Belgium. One day we went bicycling around Antwerp... That was really scary but bicycles have absolute right of way I guess.
On the last day we detoured around Germany and saw Aaron's base (it's kinda depressing there), dropped him off and went to Frankfurt.
The next day we got on a plane and flew home.
I'll get pictures eventually... I'm still trying to get caught up in school. I don't have much time to do so... there are only 4 days left.

We were in Illinois for the Science Olympiad Nationals... My team has about 15 people on it, each with a partner or two. Each little team "studies" (none of us did... at all) for their assigned tests ranging from forestry to genetics to chemistry. I had two events. One was Expiramental Deisgn where they give you some things and a topic (ours was electrostatic somethingorother) and you have to make an expirament using the things and graph the results... etc... The second one was tower building... Kelley and I built a tower out of balsa wood. It had to meet certain requirements and hold up to 15 kg and be as light as possible. Our final tower ended up weighing 14.5 grams and held 13.3 kg. Not bad, considering the first tower weighed 28g
We did really bad, but it was a lot of fun. We got to see Revenge of the Side and ride in a limo because our bus broke down.

That's a Seinfeld episode.

Well, duh, you were with your parents, right??

"Nasty"? Ugly? Smelly? A shame she wasn't kissed by a
hot Frenchman! Hm, but then, I don't know Kelley. Is she a friend of yours, and got kissed by a guy more than twice her age?
We got to see Revenge of the Side
A good flick. Not as good as Revenge of the
Sith, mind you, but good.

Nasty = old, dirty, and definately not kissworthy. Kelley's been my friend since kindergarten. I had to work really hard to convince her that it didn't count as her first kiss.

Yeah, it's about getting your apendix out

I think it's just part of one's first trip to France. On mine, I got stuck in a railway carriage next to a nasty middle-aged guy who lured me in by showing me pictures of his dog, and then put his hand on my thigh and first asked if I was Catholic, and then if I was a virgin. You can tell Kelley to think of it as an initiation into world-weary-traveler-dom. And it definately doesn't count as a first kiss.

Mine was probably in his mid-fifties, and that was ten years ago...Still, anything is possible. Une fois un salir le vieil homme, un salir le vieil homme toujours, as they say.
