Wish I could go!
Can I cash in my white gold dollars for real cash and then I could afford the airfare!

Well here's the confirmed guestlist of Bubonicon 37, August 26-28
with SRD as the guest of honor--alot of the usual suspects Jack Williamson is too fragile to make the trip and George R. R. Martin is too busy working or, rightfully miffed, at some of the obnoxious fans from last year.
Daniel Abraham
Bruce D. Arthurs
Doug Beason
Nancy V. Berberick
Richard Berthold
Suzy McKee Charnas
Douglas Clark
Yvonne Coats
Terry England

Walter Jon Williams
I'll make it a point to talk to Walter Jon Williams again--he's a serious hoot--I'd love to kidnap him to a bar for a few hours. I think I'm also going to seek out Stephen Gould (who shouldn't be confused with the eminent evolutionary biologist, Dr. Stephen J. Gould) I've been tempted to buy a number of his books and he looks like he's starting to make his mark on the fantasy world.
I will be there, heck it's just down the street!

We are going! By "we" I mean me, my 3 kids, my parents, my good friend and her son. We are road tripping it out there. Going to take the kids to Carlsbad Caverns on Thursday then head into Albuquerque on Friday. The kids are all going to dress up on Saturday for the fun of it. Alex (girl age 10) will be Harry Potter (I bought a wig cuz I am NOT using "temporary" black hair dye on my little blond), Calli ( age 7) will be a princess (or the pink palentologist depending on which way the wind is blowing that day), Nick (age 4) will be a pirate (of course) and my friend's son (age 6... and is sweet on Calli) I think will be a dementor. I will be... uh... myself! My friend will be herself too. Oh! And she is just now reading TC and is loving it! By the convention she should have finished reading all of the books. My dad will be doing an impersonation of an ATM machine. He has a t-shirt and everything! Mom will be... well... mom. She has Alzhimers so we have to humor her. Although she is quite pleasant now that she is on medication that is working.

Then it will be the 1st time I'll see a Harry Potter in the 4 years I'll have been there (refreshing break from the Storm Troopers and Spock-wannabes). I'm not saying it's a bad thing -I'm a "Muggle" what do I know...????

LOL Alex makes the cutest Harry Potter. Year before last Alex had short hair and I used the "temporary" black hair dye. Well on a blond it is NOT so temporary. I called her Two-Tone Alex for several months until her hair grew back out and I was able to get it all trimmed off bit by bit. The wig I found is made of real human hair and Alex is kinda freaked by that. Yeesh. lol I think it is going to look good though and definitely will be temporary black hair.

I am so excited! We will be leaving tomorrow afternoon for Carlesbad, then at the convention on Friday. The kids just think they are more excited then I am. I just hide it better. lol
Nick broke Alex's Harry Potter glasses! I just spent 2 days and 3 stores to find new ones. From now on I will rely on Costumes by Dusty. Awesome store! Whew.
Oh yeah! Calli will be the "pink palentologist. Her costume is way cute. I found an olive vest and shorts, dyed a white shirt pink, found a pink hat and put a dinosaur on it and put ribbons, bows and little dinos on her vest. Also found pink hiking boots. hehe
My friend's kid will not be a dementor. We will have two pirates! Arh!

SoulQuest and Danlo, don't know if it's too late for you to get this, but I'm going to Bubonicon, barring catastrophe. Is it too late to try to arrange a mini-mini-fest?

My house is open (but not for sleeping over, sorry)--look for a large person in a Yankees cap, mustache and a name tag that, curiously, says danlo

--warning the hotel bar is overpriced and sucks anyway. I know the best nearby dives-so don't worry.

For those going, Ringhtane started a thread about Bubonicon over in TC Discussion. Perhaps he should be redirected here?

Thanks for the re-direct, Danlo!
I really wish I could make it to the autograph session (I'd love to have my RotE autographed), but I can only squeeze in one day at Bubonicon, so I decided on the guest of honor day.
btw danlo, what was the situation with GRRM and the rude fans? I didn't hear about that...

It was last year--it wasn't very pretty. Wasn't that big a deal--just general grumpiness felt all around.
Friday's edit: I may not be arriving till 6 or 7 tonight (childcare issues) but, hopefully, I will be there no later than 7 and will definately be at the 8:30 read.

If you guys can make it earlier-don't miss the Opening Ceremonies-they're usually a lot of fun.

Well I didn't want to double post but things have been active in the Elohimfest '06 thread so if any one is at the hotel right now and logging in wondering where I am tonight--see the Edit: version in my post above^

I'm so pissed that I couldn't make this trip - can't wait to hear about the read tonight, Danlo!
