Greatest previews ever

What previews made you LUST for a movie?
I'll tell you, it was like a religious experience to watch that Fellowship of the Ring preview, where I first saw Gandalf saying "You shall not pass!" It was exhilirating to see something I held so dear brought to such vibrant life. Even more important was the fact my grandfather was watching the preview. Before the movies, I could only tell my grandfather how great LOTR was, but when he was there sitting beside me, experiencing the preview--ah wow! It was like I was reaching him on a level that my words couldn't. Really emotional stuff, encapsulated in that one short preview.

Godzilla for the sheer spectacle. LOTR for the reasons you mention.

"Lust for a movie?" Well, after the trailers for ROTS, I was all about seeing that movie.

The first is always the most significant, isn't it? For me, it was Braveheart. My girlfriend and I went to see Rob Roy (she'd already seen it and thought I'd like it). At the end of the movie I said, "That was pretty good, but that Braveheart movie looks like it's going to be better."
"I don't think so," she said.
One of the few times she ever admitted I was right.

All the LOTR previews did it for me, and of course I never saw those in the theater. But, with our big screen plasma and theater surround sound I was able to really enjoy the DVD's.
The newest one that has my heart pumping is Narnia. We saw the trailer when we went to see ROTS. It looks spectacular. And I love the way the title moves into the the frame at the end of the trailer...NARNIA all in ice. Fantastic.

Furls, ITA. I was going to post the same until I scrolled down and saw your post.
I really hope Narnia lives up to the trailer.

Me too. I've never been so excited by a trailer as by that for 'The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe'!
Makes me feel like a little kid again.

I was in awe of the trailer of Cinderella Man. Not my kind of movie, I've said that before, but I knew from the tensions created by the acting and editing, in just that short bit, that it was going to be something special.

Edge, I felt the same way watching that trailer. Really makes me want to see that movie.

I don't recall any preview actually making me LUST for a movie. Once I see a movie, I tend to erase the preview from my mind anyway.
I do, however, remember being excited by the teasers for Independence Day. The startling image of the White House destroyed by a beam from an alien ship above was unforgettable. In this post-9/11 era, such a scene perhaps hits too close to home for comfort, but back then what it meant to me was simply that ID4 was going to be a cool, kick-ass disaster movie. And it was.
The teaser for Steven Spielberg's A.I. is another that has stuck in my mind. But this is a kind of cheat, because I was already set on seeing this movie anyway, no matter what. The teaser just heightened my anticipation.

Guess I'll show my ancient age again by saying that the preview to the original Star Wars was completely mindblowing--we all knew we were entering a totally different age (that we desperately needed after the very painful scars of Vietnam and Watergate).

That's cool, danlo! When I was watching the original trailers for Star Wars (on the DVD), I tried to put myself in a pre-SW frame of mind, to get an idea of how new and fresh the movie must have felt back then. I was way too young to truly appreciate what an achievement SW was in '77.

In that case... I'll just say that the trailer for the movie 'Woodstock' rocked my world.

The Trailer for The Chornicles of Thomas Covenant will be amazing when it comes out.
That will make me lust for a film.

Gads, no! Well, I know many people think this way, but I will put in my two cents and officially say that Rob Roy was a much better movie than Braveheart, on almost every level. Braveheart was a 'good' movie', Rob Roy was a 'great' movie.

But, on topic, I think the best trailer I can remember seeing that sent chills down my spine and made me want to see this movie was 'Alien' (the first and best one...) Amazing teaser. (does that show my age?...)

Easy. The preview for "The Empire Strikes Back" - saw it when I went to see "The Black Hole" and the crowd went NUTS. It was the opening night for that movie and the trailer had not been seen by anyone prior. People were cheering so much that the projectionist stopped the movie, came out into the theater, and said that he'd run it again after the movie was over, which he did.

Warmark, good one... I don't remember the hype or trailer around Empire, although the display of Han Solo in the theatre (encased in carbonite) still sticks in my memory. I do recall the trailers for Episode one creating a tangible buzz of excitement, not just because it was a return to what many of us liked so much the first time, but the trailers actually made it look really intriguing (dang, how these things can trick us, eh?...

I agree, Claire. The trailer doesn't make me lust to see it, but it definitely has piqued my interest.
I am hoping Tim Burton stays more true to the novel than the musical version did...
