Dissecting Stats: 1st and 2nd Chronicles

Most Discussed Chapter Reads:

LFB, Ch.7: Lena & Ch.8: The Dawn of the Message (dissected by aliantha) -- 169 replies
LFB, Ch.1: Golden Boy & Ch.2: "You Cannot Hope" (dissected by danlo) -- 114 replies
LFB, Ch.3: Invitation to a Betrayal & Ch.4: Kevin's Watch (dissected by danlo) -- 70 replies
TPTP, Ch.11: The Ritual of Desecration (dissected by Kinslaughterer) -- 50 replies
LFB, Ch.11: The Unhomed & Ch.12: Revelstone (dissected by caamora) -- 48 replies
LFB, Ch.5: Mithil Stonedown & Ch.6: The Legend of Berek Halfhand (dissected by Lady Genni) -- 38 replies
LFB, Ch.9: Jehannum & Ch.10: The Celebration of Spring (dissected by Lord Mhoram) -- 37 replies
TOT, Ch.9: The Gift of the Forestal (dissected by kastenessen) -- 37 replies
TWL, Ch.13: Demondim-Spawn (dissected by danlo & birdandbear) -- 36 replies
TIW, Ch.18: Doom's Retreat (dissected by Dromond) -- 34 replies
TOT, Ch.21: Mother's Child (dissected by caamora) -- 34 replies

It's not surprising that the chapter on Lena dominates discussions. What happens to her remains the most controversial and debated aspect of the entire Chronicles.

Least Discussed Chapter Reads:

TIW, Ch.27: Leper (dissected by Earthfriend) -- 3 replies
TWL, Ch.23: Sarangrave Flat (dissected by Fist and Faith) -- 4 replies
TPTP, Ch.10: Pariah (dissected by variol son) -- 5 replies
TOT, Ch.10: Escape From Elohim (dissected by kastenessen) -- 5 replies
TOT, Ch.18: Surrender (dissected by srtrout) -- 5 replies
TOT, Ch.27: The Long Grief (dissected by Furls Fire) -- 5 replies
WGW, Ch.7: Physician's Plight (dissected by dlbpharmd) -- 5 replies
WGW, Ch.17: Into the Wightwarrens (dissected by Variol Farseer) -- 5 replies
LFB, Ch.24: The Calling of Lions & Ch.25: Survived (dissected by danlo) -- 6 replies
TPTP, Ch.12: Amanibhavam (dissected by Kinslaughterer) -- 6 replies
WGW, Ch.13: The Eh-Brand (dissected by Matrixman) -- 6 replies

The low number of responses doesn't necessarily mean that few folks have checked them out, but there remain some chapters worthy of a bit more discussion. (I would like to especially praise Variol Farseer's eloquent dissection of Into the Wightwarrens, and hope that more people drop by to read it.)

Books ranked by chapter read response:

1. Lord Foul's Bane --- 590 replies
2. The Wounded Land --- 425 replies
3. The One Tree --- 395 replies
3. (tie) The Illearth War --- 395 replies
5. White Gold Wielder --- 329 replies
6. The Power That Preserves --- 284 replies

The 1st Chronicles --- 1,269 replies in total
The 2nd Chronicles --- 1,149 replies in total

What's surprising to me is that TPTP would have the lowest number of responses. I figured WGW would be at the bottom of the list.

Top 10 Dissecting Posters:

danlo --- 409
Fist and Faith --- 257
duchess of malfi --- 203
Furls Fire --- 196
dlbpharmd --- 139
Matrixman --- 120
caamora --- 105
Durris --- 97
Earthblood --- 88
Seafoam Understone --- 80

There he is: Danlo, the Dour-handed Doyen of Dissection, leading us through the maze of the discussion and debate! :P

I just did these stats for fun. They're just numbers, of course, and can't say anything about the quality of the posts of all who participated in the dissections.

Thanks, MM! How interesting to see these numbers!

I figured LFB would be #1 but I'm dissapointed TIW isn't #2, my friend Autumn is almost done with it and we've been discussing it. It's an incredibly well written book and really sets the massive tone of the Land and exactly what's at stake. It truly is a masterpiece (and it's given me a couple of wicked dreams, too). 8)

For me, TIW is probably the most emotionally devastating Covenant book. So much tragedy there, but also so much mystery and magic! And as you say, danlo, it does set a massive tone. TIW is arguably the most "cinematic" of all the books. Reading through the TIW dissections just sucked me right back into the story.

White Gold Wielder was dissected during the release of Runes of the Earth, which may help explain why it had such a low turn-out.

I hope to jump into the Dissection forums soon.
Everytime I go there I start reading and think "wait wait, I have something to add!" but then I seem to recall that maybe it was talked about in the Runes forum already so I go back to check then work calls me away..bla bla bla...
:D

Still it's going to be a long time before the next book comes out so I guess I don't need to hurry.

About 4 days of poring through the chapter reads and adding up the numbers, Furls. Just one of those things where I sat down and decided, hey, this could be fun to do... :)

HLT, it's always good to have more voices in this forum. Jump in at will!

Also, TPTP and WGW could have suffer from burnout and lagging interest. (I really think WGW did.) Note that the progression is 1,1,2,2,3,3.

Hey, let's all go disect Leper and Sarangrave Flat right now!!!!

I think burn out might have been a piece of the puzzle, definately. Same thing happened right towards the end of A Man Rides Through. :)

Thanks for pointing out that progression! I completely missed that. I wonder if this pattern will be repeated when we dissect the Last Chronicles.

LOL! Wait a minute, I'm still on Lord Foul's Bane!

Er, um, yeah...I did read the last two chapter summaries, but had nothing much in the ol' mental tank to contribute, and they deserved better than an obligatory "thanks." :shifty:
dANdeLION wrote:So, who dissected the most chapters?
danlo -- 12 chapter reads (a number of reads, esp. from the 1st Chrons, combined 2 chapters, so it was double duty)

Holy cow, MM, you're a madman!!! Madman Matrixman!!! *whew*

I'm absolutely floored that I have the 2nd most posts!! 8O And poor Sarangrave Flat... One of the coolest chapters. :( :( :(

Well, Fist, if we take out the fair number of danlo's posts in Dissection that consist of him encouraging and cajoling people to do their chapter assignments on time (lest he bring out the whip and chains  ) then I suspect you would more or less tie him in posts actually relevant to in-chapter discussion.

So is that the new Mad Max movie? And more importantly, is Mel Gibson involved?

:P

No Mel Gibson. Believe it or not, they actually got Jesus Christ to star in this one. Something about, "He's gonna do a movie about me? Fine, I'll do his movie!"

I actually raised an eyebrow that I ended up with 80 something on the most amount of postings... yeah I'm still around folks... reverted to a lurker type status but still around on the watch. I have only read Runes and haven't been able to find a copy of the next book of the series... I will eventually.
But as was pointed out it was a dissection burnout for me. Plus... life gets in the way of simple pleasures such as hanging out at the watch!

Holla to you all
