Professor Quirrel and the DADA position [spoiler]

Does anyone have a copy of Sorceror's/Philosopher's Stone handy? Is it ever really said how long Professor Quirrel teaches DADA before and after travelling and acquiring his stutter?

I was always under the impression he held the job for quite a while, although he wasn't nearly as effective after his life altering journey. But, upon this second, slower reading of HBP that I am currently doing, the statement Dumbledore makes about the length of time professors stay in the DADA job after Voldemort visits him in the Headmaster's Office leads me to believe I was mistaken.

And yet, I could have sworn it says somewhere that Quirrel taught the subject for years...

That struck me too, Menolly.

What it actually says, is that 'Snapes has been after Quirrel's job for years' (I forget who said it).

I suppose at a stretch, it could mean that Snapes has been after the position of DADA teacher for years, but I think that was a bit of a slip-up on JKR's part.

Quirrel was only the DADA instructor for that one year. Snape was after the DADA job for years. I just read the book, and I am pretty sure it makes it clear that Quirrel only taught that class for one year.

Okay, I checked up.

In the movie, Percy says to Harry, speaking of Snapes, that 'everyone knows he's been after Quirrell's job for years'.

But in the book, all he says is, 'everyone knows he’s after Quirrell’s job'.

So JKR didn't slip-up.

I didn't think so. :)
