Runes will be available in paperback on August 30th, 2005 (according to Amazon.com.) For reasons that aren't readily apparent to me, the hardback book is actually a little cheaper than the paperback right now.

Sorry, I'm not sure what's wrong with the link. I removed it. You may want to just go to amazon.com and search for Runes of the Earth if you're interested.

It's because you tried to link to a search result. Those links are only temporary, and change when you log out (or after a certain period of inactivity). The link to the book itself is permanent, or should be:
www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/ ... s&n=507846
By the way, that's a trade paperback, not mass-market, which is why it's more expensive than the (deeply discounted) hardcover. If you haven't bought
Runes yet, you've got a tough decision:
1. Buy the hardcover, save 10 cents, get a more durable book.
2. Buy the trade paperback, get the corrections of all the niggling little stupid errors SRD made in the hardcover edition — many of which were called to his attention by members of Kevin's Watch! Stand up and take a bow, you shameless geeks, you.

Ah, of course, I should have realized that. Thanks!

I just went to amazon.co.uk and was greeted with this image under my recommendations:

Nice new mmpb cover.
Out 3rd October, according to amazon.

I really like that cover, Murrin.

Very elegant cover, Murrin. Would be nice to get my hands on a UK edition of Runes. I prefer the minimalistic style of the UK covers over the North American style.

That's a definite improvement over the original UK cover.

Those of us stateside can order UK versions from amazon.co.uk. That's how I got a UK copy of one of the Harry Potter books for my eldest last Christmas. The postage wasn't too prohibitive. (Rule of thumb for currency conversion: Take the price in pounds and double it -- you're in the ballpark for what it'll cost you in US dollars....)

I too like the UK book covers more than the N.American ones.

As I posted in another thread, I have the new UK mmpb but with an opposite light/dark colors within the circle. The cover is very cool with an effect I haven't seen anywhere else that makes the picture look strangely three-dimensional. This is because it really is somewhat three-dimensional and has grooves in it, to the point of being translucent to the next, all-black page. There are book covers with embossed text and even pictures, but this is not like those. This is far better!

Back in my comic book collecting days, I have to admit that I was a big fan of covers. I've now carried that nuance over into the realm of serious novels and newspaper front pages. Don't worry, I still don't judge a book by its cover

but an awesome cover is definitely an added bonus.
The cover to Runes is absolutely gorgeous, IMO. It really embodies what I feel is the actual color scheme of the Land. It also makes the characters so tiny that it doesn't interfere with the mental images I have of them, while still making it so I'm able to tell who is who.
I hope the US paperback is just as unique as the US hardcover. I've never seen a more beautiful scenic cover. I'm also a fan of the original covers, but I'm sure there are some I have not yet seen, (both in the US and UK editions). I was wondering if there's a cover gallery anywhere on this site?
Before I come out and ask the question outright, I think I'll have to peruse the options on the main page. I have to admit, I haven't explored every one of them yet.
I did discover the casino though.

It likes to eat my WGD.
