Alright guys, give it up. I just wanted to see whos other peoples favorite character is! Write about why you like them to.

Honestly.... Foamfollower is my favorite because he is so dang friendly! He is rather strong and as good a friend as anyone could ask for. Especially Covenant. I mean he does have to put up with Covenant a lot. He is also very wise, not as much as say Mhoram, but still. Plus he is the Pure One... cant beat that!

Do you mean favorite character other than Thomas Covenant?

I'd have to say Linden Avery. She's like Covenant in that either people love her or hate her. There seems to be no middle ground.

Mhoram is a very close runner-up.

And I still love Elena, even if people disown her because she's whacko.

In terms of Giants, I'm actually more sympathetic to Grimmand Honninscrave's character than to everyone's sentimental favorite, Foamfollower. Honninscrave is such a complex and tortured soul, he just moves me deeply. Actually, I also prefer The First of the Search and Pitchwife over Foamfollower. Basically, the Giants in the 2nd Chronicles are more interesting to me.

And while I'm at it, I have to mention Bannor. Still the coolest Haruchai. Ever.

Kinda mentioned a lot of people there, but thats okay. And if your wondering, yes you can say Covenant if you want, just give the reasons why.

I understand about the giants, but I dont really look at them if they have a tortured soul or not when I think of my favorite character. I do like Elena a lot and with Linden...well..... she can kind of get on my nerves but I still like her. She appears weak often but she does deal with a lot of things.

Covenant, of course - he's just a very interesting character to read from the perspective of. Mhoram probably comes second.

Matrixman was speaking only of Honninscrave when he mentioned "tortured soul."

Choosing only one of the characters as a "favorite" is very difficult. But, besides Covenant, Mhoram was a character who really stayed with me after reading the 1st Chronicles. Bannor is another character who struck a chord with me. I'd say that Mhoram and Bannor are my favorites in the 1st chronicles. Both of them displayed a strength and honor which I deem admirable.

He was jovial, enjoyed life's pleasures, and found his strength when it was required.

Quite the character, actually!

That is the reason I love Gilden Fire so much.

Vain--without a doubt! The dude never shuts up! (I'm serious though-I love Vain!)--after that, it's tough, probably Pitchwife.

Vain is definatly my favourite from the second chronicles.

Didn't mean to overlook Vain. He's a favorite of mine as well, just not way up there. It's kinda hard to emotionally relate to Vain, y'know? He's like a super robot waiting to be put into action. Or like a cool Porsche waiting to roar into life. Vain is an awesomely engineered piece of machinery that I admire but not feel sympathy or empathy for.

I don't think I could pick one character who was my favorite -- I love so many of them for different reasons: Covenant, for his complexity and his pain; Linden, for the same reasons; Foamfollower, for his exuberance; Pitchwife, for his humor and his love for the First; Mhoram, for his humanity.

In the 3rd Chrons, the Stonedownor (whose name I can't think of right now, drat!) has the potential, I think, to become another of my favorites.

I loved Foamfollower in the first chronicles and Pitchwife in the second.

In some ways, the Giants are representative of all that is good in the land for me. Despite their problems (being Unhomed, being bent and twisted) they have this immense spirit and a capacity for humor and joy that I love. Plus, they make awesome liquor and the camoraa is a pretty ingenious way to purge your grief, you being flame-retardant and all.

#1 is Mhoram.

#2 is Findail

I know, many are saying HUH? and WTF?

He has many of my favorite all time lines and he's been there for all the *BIG* TC Wild Magic business.

And of course this one I love:

This is sooo tough to answer! I suppose Mhoram from the first chronicle. And I can't give a definitive reason why, he just WAS.

Pitchwife from the second. Such grace!

And I suppose someone shoud give honorable mention to Lord Foul himself. Without whom none of it would have been possible.

I need to correct myself concerning Vain. I did feel empathy for him in those instances when he suffered direct physical harm (even though he might not have felt the pain). But I don't "love" him the way I love the human characters.

As for why Covenant and Linden are my top two favorites, a major reason is because I see much of myself in both of them: they're loners who never quite fit anywhere they are. But they aren't the shallow, incoherent kind of loner like the protagonist of Catcher in the Rye (a book that did not impress me in school, and it still does not). Instead of a petulant brat like Holden whatsisname, Linden and Covenant are intelligent, complex, damaged adults, and I appreciate SRD for making them as such.
