The game will be called the Gap into War, and already most of the rules have been written up (Behemoth-Class Defensives are insanely powerful; Illegals are a neutral force that can be hired for a price, but may backstab you! . . . ). For those people that are interested, either pm me your email address or post your email address here so I can send V1.0 of the rules to you.
This thread will be used to discuss the rules!

The thread for the teams will happen next week, after everyone has had a chance to peruse the rules. You decide what team to be on.

Update: The combat rules are almost finished. Please don't think the game was just a passing interest. I will hopefully finish the rules by tomorrow morning (am at work).
Thanks everyone for the interest.
Edge - will need to pm you regarding the icons.

I'd like to make a suggestion concerning illegals - when an illegal fleet is in its home sector, would it not be likely they would have a higher chance of working for the controlling side (for example, illegals on Com-Mine would usually have to answer to Station Security)?
Oh, and what happens to the Thanatos Minor illegals when the station is destroyed? Do they remain in play?

Good points, Murrin! Maybe if an illegal fleet is in your sector (Com-Mine or Thanatos Minor) you get a bonus (but that would make it even for both sides). But Illegals act as one.
I'd have to take your suggestion for illegals in Thanatos Minor - they'd get destroyed. I'll add that in for v1.1.

Addendum: You can only receive I.O. in sectors with planets/asteroids that have divisions on them (at least one).
I have removed Cruisers.
