Time for a maybe really stupid question... Could someone please explain to me the title of second book?
Oh, and as for not-so-stupid: I know there was a king once who's name was Monomach, but does anyone have any other info on the term? Love the sound of it.

I think that a man rides through is the next line of the poem...I read that poem in college, a long time ago. I can't even rememebr who wrote it!

Yes, but I fail to see the deeper meaning and connection of this line to the story... but then, I'm dumb.

I always assumed it was a reference to going through the mirrors...though nobody actually
rides through.
Also, it's in the quote that SRD uses to preface the books:
"Steeped in the vacuum of her dreams.
A mirror's empty till
A man rides through it."

Google is so great...
I don't have time right now to analyze this and draw any paralells, but here's some fodder for thought.

If you follow Birdy's link you can read the poem and the commentary on the poem. The man who rides through in the poem is Sir Lancelot...
I have always thought of the man riding through in the book being Geraden, as he has broken through Terisa's enchantment, and given her a new life.

Yes it's part of the Silverlock poem and it's like fairy tale analogy too--like Terisa's Prince Charming has come though to take her away...something like that.

Exactly.

Geraden is Prince Charming to Terisa's Sleeping Beauty.

According to Dictionary.com, a monomachy is a duel; i.e, 1-on-1 combat. I'm not sure about the reference to a former king.

Makes sense that monomahy means duel, since the main job of the Monomach is to fight, in the book.
Was there a real-life king named Monomach? The only thing I found with a quick google search was a duke nicknamed "monomach" -
Vladimir II "Monomach" Grand Duke of Kiew, born 1053, died 1125.
