This year the warehouse club near my house (its the closest grocery store, so I run in there a couple of times a week to pick up milk or bread or whatever) got their Christmas decorations up in August.

The other night when I was driving home from work I was pushing the buttons on my radio and found one of my programmed stations playing Christmas music. Its November 1, and they are playing nothing but Christmas music.

If Christmas stuff continues to expand like this, soon it will be a year round thing, and it will not be special anymore. Its already getting to that point with me, in fact.

I used to think it was crazy when a few stations changed format after Halloween and went to Christmas music 24/7.
But you know what?
I listen to it all the time!

The ratings must be there or they wouldn't do it.

They should play christmas music all year round, just not all the time, mix it with other stuff.

well I clicked 2 months, but my REAL responce is one month. When December hits, I get that 'holiday spirit'. Can't help it, it's my familial upbringing. It has nothing to do with consumerism, more than it does about all family getting together and doing all those sappy things you (only) see in movies. Love it. And many Xmas songs remind me of it: Sleigh bells, Silent Night, etc...

I love Christmas music, but I am still in Halloween mode on November 1. Of course, with my sick sense of humor, I tend to be into songs like Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer.

Tell you what, I will add a choice to the poll that says "after Thanksgiving".

I voted "a couple of days before." Any more than that and I get sick of Christmas music altogether.

Well, if it were totally up to me, it would be never. But, since it isn't, I'll concede two weeks.

Christmas Eve and Christmas day sounds good. I hate most of the secular crap eanyway. I can sing the carols at Mass.

yep. exactly. altho i always like a good rousing God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman and my favorite xmas song of all time is Vince Guiraldi's Christmastime Is Here (is that the name of that tune? you know, the one from Charlie Brown Christmas. i love that song.)

I was never big into traditional Christmas music, and I rarely listen to the radio these days anyway, but for what it's worth, I think having holiday music on the airwaves a couple of weeks before the big day is fine.

Hearing all the customary Christmas carols during the holiday season just makes me feel more acutely my sense of not really fitting in with everyone else, since I wasn't raised here. In elementary school music class I rarely joined in with the other kids in Christmas sing-a-longs, as I never really learned the words. While I respect the social and economic importance of the Christmas season, as well as the Christian values the holiday represents, it is an aspect of Western culture that I have never fully assimilated myself into. I don't personally celebrate Christmas, so I remain an outsider.

Having said all that, there are three special musical favorites I inevitably bring out for the holidays: Vince Guaraldi's timeless soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet, and...yes, Elvis's Christmas Album. (So sue me. I think Presley's rendition of White Christmas is still the best done by anybody.)

To be honest, it doesn't really matter to me. I usually don't listen to the radio. If I want to hear something, I'll play my cd. Most radio stations are garbage in my area regardless of the time of year.

But I voted for "from Thanksgiving to New Year." After all, that's when most of the shopping occurs. Why not be in the "spirit" while spending your cash on needless things just to satisfy retail's idea of Christmas?

J/K... I love the Holidays. Seeing people not often seen throughout the year. Great food and company, and just an overall sense of togetherness. (Yeah, gifts are cool too, but not even close to as important to me as they were when I was a kid.)

I guess more than anything, a Carol here and there brings on a sense of nostalgia, so I don't mind that much. I'm still a kid at heart, so I like to relive my childhood as often as possible.....bye for now...I gotta go get me a Radio Flyer!

There is a house down the road with Christmas lights up-LOTS OF THEM!Imagine your worst stereotypical image of an Alabamian-Then give the person in that image an unlimited supply of white and blue Christmas lights.Now imagine that person not having sex with his sister,commiting a hate crime,or watching a NASCAR race Well its very likely worse than you can imagine.
