The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks

I purchased this book at my son's book fair. It's pretty good. The main character is a woman who is a little like Syd from Alias and a historical fiction mix a little like Elektra and Dan Brown's novels.
It is one of the first books I've read in a while where I haven't figured out 'what will happen next' in the plot. I keep reading to see what will happen next...
Anyone else read this one?

I read something about him recently. It said he doesn't have an address, passport, drivers licence, and doesn't use his real name. Says he 'lives off the grid', sounds a bit paranoid about government invading privacy.

Though Twelve Hawks won't talk to the media, his publisher supplied USA TODAY with an e-mailed quote from him about why he lives the way he does: "The Vast Machine is the very powerful — and very real — computerized information system that monitors all aspects of our lives. I live off the Grid by choice."

Twelve Hawks sounds like a real-life version of F. Paul Wilson's protagonist Repairman Jack.

Repairman Jack is the protagonist of nine novels, written by F. Paul Wilson. Jack has no passport, no SSN, no bank accounts, etc. He has a last name, but we never hear it and he never uses it except around his family.
Jack is an urban vigilante/mercenary, based in New York City. He rights the wrongs for people who can't contact the police, or who the authorities can't help.
He stumbles into a lot of speculative plotlines, everything from super viruses to supernatural creatures.
I just started The Traveler, and I'm reminded a little of Highlander - the background and rituals and "secret history," etc.
It's pretty good so far.

oh jeezaley petes...as if i don't have enough series to keep up with!!! Repairman Jack AND the traveler both sound right up my alley!!
