My dream band, musically, probably wouldn't made any sense at all-probably end up sounding like a schreeching cat fight:
Guitars:
John McGlaughlin
Joe Satriani
Chris Cornell
Pat Travers
Jeff Beck
Dwayne Allman
Stevie Vai
Bass:
Chris Squire
Drums: Billy Cobham
(though I do think Chris and Pat might end up sounding interesting on vocals...)

Guitar: Gord Johnson (Big Sugar)
Drums: Jimmy Chamberlain (smashing Pumpkins)
Vocals: Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo)
Songwritters.. music:Alex Lifeson(Rush)
Lyrics: Dave Pirner (soul Asylum)
Produced by: Mutt Lang.
Reasons:
Gord Johnson is Heavily influenced by Rush, but he's got this rough blues edge..so if he played a song written by Lifeson-well think of a cross between Tom Sawer by rush with Black Dog by Zepplin.
Dave Pirner writes incredible stroy telling folk style lyrics, Jim Cuddy can make anything sound beautifull, he's got such a strong yet mesmerizing voice.
Jimmy Chamberlain automatically improves any song that he plays drums on--he's even better than John Bonham (sorry C!)
I never really thought of a bass player, maybe Chris Murphy from Sloan..he could singbackup too.
Oh and if Mutt Lang doesn't get your album triple platinum, no one can.

ah...this is pretty close to what i might come up with for ONE of my dream bands.
cross off satriani, travers, and vai for me. not into THAT kind of speed playing.
add instead...that hunky guitarist with the tasty chops, Doyle Bramhall II,
how 'bout Adrian Belew for some kick*ss vocals along with Chris, and i do belive Chris Squire sings as well.
keyboards? why Donald Fagan, of course, or if you wanna keep it progressive, Patrick Moraz or Wakeman, OR if you wanna get another vocalist who also plays keyboards, Gary Brooker for the more R & B sound, and then, of course, you've left out the all important BACKUP SINGERS!!!! heh.
say,
Valerie Carter (sings Long Distance Love with Lowell George)
Merry Clayton (sings Gimme Shelter with Mick!)
Rosemary Butler (you've heard her with Jackson Browne, James Taylor, and a host of others)
and lastly, two drummers, keep Cobham and add Bruford!! heh.
yeah.

You never need two drummers. The Greatful Dead did it for a while..it's so unnessecary.
A drummer and a percusionist maybe (Someone to play hand drums, and tambourines and shakers and stuff)
But two guys (or gals) on the traps--waste of effort.
(But if you got Jimmy Chamberlain..he saunds like two drummers)

Speaking of backup singers what about Clare Torry who wailed on Dark Side of the Moon?
Yes Chris S. sings--A Fish Out of Water (his first solo album) is great!
I'd probably pick Keith Emerson for keyboards, Ritchie Cole for sax and Rebop Wakuba (Traffic) for percussion--and Magic Dick (The J. Giels Band) on harmonica: just listen once to
Whammer Jammer and you'll understand

.
Lyrics? Neil Young and Maynard (Tool, PC) wouldn't they make an odd pair?

Dream band?.. wow, that's tough. Off the top of my head:
drums: Bill Bruford
guitars: Robert Fripp & Frank Zappa (I know, crazy, but I have often wondered about what sound they would produce together.)
vocals: David Bowie
bass: Tony Levin (I know, a lot of KC choices...), Chris Squire or Geddy Lee
keyboards: Patrick Moraz
And the name of the Band?...
"The Crimson Mothers of Spiders"

by Cail
Vocals-Robert Plant
Guitar-Jimmy Page
Bass-John Paul Jones
Drums-John Bonham
But, seeing as how that's been done....
Vocals-Pat Benatar
Guitars-George Lynch and Dweezil Zappa
Bass-Roger Glover
Keyboard-Jan Hammer
Drums-Cozy Powell or Carmine Appice
Have Mutt produce it.

Paula Blade (Lochinvar) - vocals
Kendra Smith (Dream Syndicate, Opal) - vocals, bass, keyboards
Elisa Martin (Dark Moor) - vocals
Probably getting too obscure.
I'll have to give it some thought.

Rather obscure 80's metal for the most part.
Like I said, I'll give it more thought.

Given that my main two genres are metal and more "indie/alternative" stuff, I'm going to have to make two bands. To put it another way, I can't have, say, Ian Curtis singing over Jon Nödtveidt's frantic guitar-shredding. Even if it would be quite fun to see. And I'll have to restrict myself to one musician per band, I suppose.
Metal
Guttural/growling vocals: Jon Nödtveidt (Dissection)
Clean vocals: Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Guitar 1: Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon/Star One)
Guitar 2: Samoth (Emperor/Zyklon)
Keyboards: Nobuo Uematsu (The Black Mages)
Bass: Peter Iwers (In Flames)
Drums: Hellhammer (Mayhem/Arcturus)
Alternative
Lead vocals: Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
Backing vocals: Jón Þor Birgisson (Sigur Rós)
Guitar 1: Joey Santiago (Pixies)
Guitar 2: Claudio Sanchez (Coheed And Cambria)
Bass: Simon Gallup (The Cure)
Drums: Jimmy Chamberlin (The Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan)

Mostly 80s metal guy here...
Vocals : Eric Adams (Manowar)
Guitar 1 : Dave Murray (Iron Maiden)
Guitar 2 : George Lynch (Dokken / Lynch Mob)
Bass : Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
Drums : Nick Menza (early Megadeth)
Now that's my dream lineup.
