look people, footy or football means aussie rules and thats just for starters.i have tried and tried to enjoy baseball but the bottom line is that the game is way too dull.hockey is a glorified punch up and basketball is hardly ever played it seems cos the millionaires are always on strike(applies to hockey aswell).the nfl is the only half decent game except for all the adverts.i assume im gonna get paid out for this post but it has to be said-i and many aussies,nz have suffered for too long.there are only 3 sports worthy of the name;footy, rugby football and cricket.the red and blues rule all.i geuss there has to be a point to this post so i will(tentatively) ask if anyone agrees with me?

US football is a great sport, which has unfortunately been ruined by TV. I watched a couple of games yesterday, and it's a real pain in the arse to have to cut to commercial every 2 minutes or so. This is why I enjoy watching proper football (soccer) so much. 45 minutes of non-stop play.

I cannot understand US football, when watching it it seems so random and unorginised. Watch SPL with me and Cail!

Get TIVO or the equivilent.
Watch the game 1/2 after it starts and you can blissfully fast forward through all the commercials.

Yeah, as much as I enjoy watching the Prem, it doesn't hold a candle to the SPL, especially the Old Firm matches (well, not so much this season). For comparison, the MLS (US soccer) is just painful to watch.

hockey is a glorified punch up
 :x Them's fight'n words!.. :bang:

...sorry...

;)

I agree that I cannot get in to basketball, or baseball. N.American football is watchable, and as I have commented before, Aussie rules football is great! But none of the sports stations run games any more
But Hockey! ... now there is my sport: fast, aggressive, action-packed... the skill and speed of these guys is a beauty to watch... espcially the teams from the west, like Vancouver and Edmonton...

sorry you don't like this stuff... your loss... ;) :)

outside of aus how big is aussie rules?do you guys in uk and u.s get it on tv?
i have respect for the speed and skill of the hockey guys but whats with having someone who cant hardly play but just goes on to fight(the enforcers i believe there called).im all for physical sport but thats ridiculous.and someone please explain all the strikes to me.i understand unions and direct action have there place but they must feel a responsibility to the fans surely!

Totally agree. That whole strike thing was lame. I blame Bettman. But that is just me and a long explanation...

Hey now, let's not bash baseball too much, heh.

I think it's all a matter of how you were raised. Me, I grew up playing baseball and watching the Baltimore Orioles. While I sucked at playing the game, I still enjoy watching the O's. Baseball may be slow compared to other sports, but it's still fun to watch.

On the other hand, I've never been able to get into watching football (American football) or basketball until I finally had some local teams to root for (Ravens and University of Maryland). It's hard for me to watch any sports game when I don't have any connection with the team.

And soccer...heh. I know a lot of people love that sport, but I never got into it. And I just don't understand why people like it, really. It's a huge field with people running around for countless hours and very little scoring. Like I said, I don't get it. Heh.-jay

baseball is trying to steal away adam gilchrist-probably the best allround cricketer in the world(the red sox want him i think)so i feel obliged to hate the sport and hes also australian which just adds to my hatred.

The SPL is good. The English Premier League is better, best league in the world in fact.

Every sport has pros and cons, but let's face it, cricket? Come on, lets get serious here.

baseball is best live, but they have cranked the music and the damned scoreboards. and i score the game, and only usually find one other person doing the same in the section I'm sitting in.
