The "In the year..." game

Well, since it seems we now have 1492 members, and that number immediately made me think of an important historical event, I introduce the "In the year..." game. Whenever the membership number changes, the first to notice it posts an historical event of at least some significance which happened in the year represented by the membership number.

As an example:

1492: On October 12, a sailor on the Pinta sights land, and the next day, the crews of Colombus's fleet land on the Bahamian isle of Guanahaní. The day historically marks the discovery of America.

on october 13 1494 Chrissy Colombus set sail on his scond journey to the americas.the trans atlantic crossing lasted 21 days and covered 850 leagues. must have been fun. :Z:

King Charles VIII of France enters Naples to claim the city's throne. A few months later, he decides to return to France, and leaves Naples with most of his army, leaving a force under his cousin Gilbert, Count of Montpensier as Viceroy. (Feb 22)

A Spanish army under Hernandez Gonzalo de Cordoba lands in Calabria with the purpose of ousting the French and restoring Ferrante II to the throne of Naples. (May 26)

Friar John Cor records the first known batch of Scotch whisky. (June 1)

December of 1979 I passed David Berkowitz on the freeway on the border of Maryland and Delaware and didn't know it till I saw his photo a year later 8O

1999:
People panic about the Y2K bug,
fearing that it will destroy their computer data.

(note - I have an old IBM computer built in 1985
that has an internal calander that goes up to 2050.
Was not worried about Y2K because the year is formated to take 4 digits.)
