Earlier this night I tuned into the 2005 Video Game Awards on SpikeTV (Channel 16 in my area). Naturally it was a boisterous affair featuring lots of rap, rock, babes and beefcake. The show was hosted by Samuel L. Jackson. These were among the evening's winners:

Best Performance by a Human Female: Charlize Theron - Aeon Flux
Best Performance by a Human Male: Jack Black - King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
Best Group Performance: King Kong
Best Individual Sports Game: Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Best Team Sports Game: Madden NFL '06
Best Action Game: God of War
Designer of the Year: David Jaffe for God of War
Viewers' Choice Best Driving Game: Burnout Revenge
Best Handheld Game: Lumines
Best Multiplayer Game: World of Warcraft
Best Original Song: "Maybe We Crazy" by 50 Cent for 50 Cent: Bulletproof
Best Game Based On a Movie: King Kong
Viewers' Choice Most Addictive Game: World of Warcraft
Game of the Year: Resident Evil 4

I'll leave it to you to judge the legitimacy of the winners. It all seemed a bit arbitrary to me, but whatever. I just watched this thing for the hell of it, so I don't know how prestigious these awards are, but the show did seem to have most of the nominated game designers in attendance. However, there was no explanation as to how the winners were chosen and by whom.

At any rate, I usually check my favorite gaming mags (like PC Gamer) to get expert rankings of the year's best.

So, agree with the list? Disagree? What would the KW Game Awards list look like?

They seem to have picked games that are good for exach category, but then everyone is going to have a different opinion, that's the whole point. I would never give an award to anything 50 cent was involved in, for example. (they got God of War right though, amazing game)
