Um, impotent?

Maybe I'm misremembering, but hasn't Covenant's leprosy left him impotent before the first series..?

... then how does Linden and him manage to .. err.. have so much fun.. in the second chronicles?

You are right he was, but in 2nd chrons when Covenant and Linden 'get it on' he does refer to this fact. He says something along the lines of 'Can you believe that before this I was impotent'. I think they got together just after Covenant was woken from the Elohim induced state and stood up for Linden after the Haruchai had a go at her, so maybe that made him gain in confidence and helped him overcome it?

Plus, don't forget that whem Covenant first went to The Land, he (unknowingly) became a father.
*Can you say Elena?*
Maybe the hurtloam had healed that problem, or it was a thing in his mind,
or maybe in all reality, it was but a dream...

Maybe I should do some rereading, but I can't help remembering that part of what made him rape Lena was his being unable to handle his newfound "potency" after being healed by the hurtloam..

Nothing like that happens in the second chronicles, and in fact, Covenant's leprosy had had a major relapse in between.. ?

Maybe the giant's brew had some other effects? lol

I know that I'm in the minority. But I think Covenant healed himself with wild magic. He spent a lot of time alone in his cabin on that dromond. He claims he'd been practicing using the wild magic, but we know what else he must have been doing. In fact, at one point it clearly refers to Brinn hiding a semi-charred issue of Glamour before Linden came into Covenant's cabin.
Spoiler

Alcohol? That should have increased his impotence

Alcohol doesn't always cause impotence. Sometimes it just makes you spill beverages on your sleeve!

It seems to me that Covenant's impotence was most likely due to the deep psychological trauma that he had endured and not necessarily related to his physical health.

Diseases that cause loss of feeling in the extremities such as leprosy and diabetes can cause impotency. In the first series, the attention that Lena was giving him, caused him to get a little excited and the shock of that along with his feelings of the story about the wedding gifts, he went crazy and raped her. In the second chronicles I think he healed himself with White Magic.

I think this might be one of those SRD "errors" or "oops" moments.
Or maybe he learned more about leprosy in later years and realized impotence isn't always the case.
TC's leprosy is mentioned right through to the end of WGW so he never cured himself of that.

In 1st Chrons he was healed with hurtloam and couldnt handle the rush of new feeling this brought, as Talonhawk said and I agree with Wayfriend that he healed himself with Wild Magic in 2nd chrons. When Linden roused him from the kind of trance he was in, she knew that the Wild Magic was accessible to him due to all the venom and the re-awakening of his power coupled with the fact that he got all passionate and defensive about protecting Linden from the Haruchai, all probably contributed to his sudden virility.

Besides, Linden didn't get pregnant or anything. So maybe he was able to just... y'know... but he couldn't..... y'know.

Hmm.. and they never actually say they had *normal* lovin'...

Maybe Covenant found other uses for his "wild magic which destroys peace"..

.. and the peace it's destroying in this case, is the giant's ability to sleep at night with the boat rocking...

Maybe it's supposed to be 'wild magic which gets a piece'.

I've always believed that TC's initial impotence in the first series was emotionally determined. He hadn't been sick with leprosy long enough to sustain multisystem damage, I don't think; he was treated quite quickly after the infection took hold.

I think he internalized Joan's rejection much too completely; the sequences early in LFB where he's remembering her in her nightgown are pretty similar to when Korik is remembering his last night with his wife before he left the mountains forever.

That Covenant and Linden become intimate in the second series shows the degree of emotional healing each has attained through the events of the story. They had each been long accustomed to not only celibacy but profound interior isolation.
