I'm not sure if these guys are around anymore. JamBase doesn't show anything and their URL is defunct, but - hey - their draft number came up, so the disc found its way into the stereo. Recorded in 2000, the Florida band catches the jamband movement on the cusp of discovering breakbeats. The songs, especially the self-titled opener (named after the band, not the album), capture an inkling of the kind of playfulness exuded by George Clinton and company and mostly forgotten by modern day funksters. Unkle Funkle, too, seems to forget it as the disc progresses into Santana/fusion territory, all laced with the ubiquitous groove. In places, the music shows exuberance, such as the Motown-like head to "High Expectations." These slight peaks are soon subsumed by the disc's flow. Oblique Strategies sez: "Consider different fading systems."

Portsmouth, NH based Thanks To Gravity have had quite a roller coaster ride in their 10 year career. The first rock band on the Seacoast scene to self-release an album in compact disc format back in 1991, the band quickly established themselves as trendsetters, constantly pushing the boundaries of their musical genre. In the time since the band has released 5 other discs, 3 independently, one on AWARE Records, and in 1996 the band inked a multi-album deal with Capitol Records, going on to release only one album with the label.

Throughout it all, the band remained rooted in the Portsmouth area, staying loyal to the Seacoast fan base that propelled them to the brink of commercial success. In addition to their recording accomplishments, the band has shared the marquee with such artists as Sinead O'Connor, The Dave Matthews Band, Edwin McCain, Train, and Matchbox 20. The group has collaborated on projects with world-renowned producers Rupert Hine (Duncan Sheik, Suzanne Vega, Rush), Paul Fox (10,000 Maniacs, They Might Be Giants, Semisonic) and John Alagia (The Dave Matthews Band). In 1995, the band also performed a classical piece composed by frontman Andy Happel with the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra.
