I just picked up my first book by this Australian author. He's probably most famous for The Power of One, set in Africa, but the book I bought is called The Potato Factory, the first novel in his Austrailian trilogy.

Anyone read Courtenay? He sounded like a potentially excellent historical adventure writer, so I thought I would give him a shot.

I've read "The Power of One" - many years ago. I definitely enjoyed the book when I read it, but from memory (for me) Courtenay falls into the category that I describe as "entertaining, but not compelling".

I havent read any of his since, as I've veered more towards reading classics and lit fiction and top shelf fantasy (Dark Tower this year Roland, I promise!)

He's one of the most popular authors in Australia, so he's gotta be doing something right :)

Hmm, lost my post here in the hack it seems. Have only heard good things about The Power of One, but have never read any of them myself.

It's supposed to be one of those books you should read. *shrugs*
