I looked but didn't see a thread about this movie, so....

What does everyone think? I finally got around to watching this tonight, and I laughed my ass off. Best comedy I've seen in a long time.

I have been wanting to see both of these movies, but I cannot get any of my friends to give me a straight up raunch rating.

What do you guys think?

Nudity in and of itself does not bother me if that's what the R-rating is for. But some R-rated comedy scenes (like the hair gel scene in There's Something About Mary) have been known to sort of turn my tummy. Most PG-13 movies like Zoolander or Meet the Parents do not bother me...

So what is the raunch factor in these two films???

40-Isn't really that bad.

Wedding Crashers has a scene in which the hero is....uhhhh....manually manipulated beneath the dinner table. Very funny, but may be considered raunchy.

Virgin was good. Nothing too raunchy about it that I remember. What there is is mostly verbal. There's one girl that's a bit (ok, a lot) of a freak sexually, and a scene involving hair removal that made me squirm a bit.

I was really surprised with Carrel's performance. I thought it was going to be an almost SNL-type stock character (can't stand The Office), but I was wrong.

Wedding Crashers... meh. The characters are two-dimensional, which is usually good for Vaughn, and maybe he didn't do too bad of a job with this one, but Wilson really drags the movie down. Walken can't even save it. There's a lot of nudity and injury/bodily function humor.

I agree with Syl. Vaughn carries the film. Wilson is typical one-dimensional Wilson. I laughed my butt off every time I've watched it.

It sounds like I might be able to handle both then. I can deal with pretty much any sort of humor as long as it is "good natured", as in you are laughing along with the performers rather than "cruel" humor where you laugh at people for getting hurt or needlessly humiliated or needlessly hurting other people. If these movies are good natured and a bit bawdy, I would probably be fine with them.

The scenes that bothered me in There's Something About Mary were the male mutilation with the zipper, the fish hooks in the guy's face, and the "hair gel" scene...

The language is the raunch I'm talking about. Particularly in 40. A group of male friends talks about women and sex. There's no way that's not gonna be raunchy. And there's a scene where an older guy is saying, "Love isn't just about sex. Not just @#$#%%, and #$%&%$, and @#$^%$#$ #$$%^, $$%^%, ##$^&%$, @$%^&%." using some surprisingly filthy phrases.

Hilarious, imo. I saw it twice, and will watch it again on dvd. But not for everyone.

I love the "Know how I know you're gay?" thing. Especially the last thing said.

I enjoyed the main actors performance... he's the guy that did the American version of The Office, right?

I've watched part of it, up through the card game....what's that, like a half hour? I didn't find it to be funny at all, and turned it off. I still have it at my house; if I get incredibly bored, I might watch the rest of it just because it's there....so far, the only thing I liked Steve Carrel in is Bruce Almighty.

40 really would have been a better film if they got rid of the cursing. I loved the rest of it, but the cursing was way way way past the point of gratuitous.

Ever see the movie Major League? It's on TV a lot - pretty funny movie. But if you watch the real version of it (not the "editied for TV" version), there's clearly an unnecessary amount of cursing. I think it distracts you from enjoying the movie. Too bad they don't release "Tamed" versions of movies instead of (or in addition to) the "Unrated" ones.
