The Magician...I borrowed it off a friend, but it will be a while (month or two) before I get to read it...is it worth it? The friend liked it, but you know, just to get a second opinion...

EDIT: Fixed name, ta Avatar.

That's Raymond Feist Spring. ;)

And yeah, Magician is totally worth it. Great book. I have the unabridged one, and I still read the whole series every few years...or once a year...or whenever I'm bored.

The "parallel" series, Daughter of the Empire, Servant of the Empire and Mistress of the Empire is even better, but wait 'til you've read Magician and the two that follow it.

Heh, sorry. I knew it started with "R", but I couldn't remember. Thanks.

Like I said, I won't be able to read it for a while, because I've got Mordants Need, The Gap, Strange Dreams and maybe TC to get through. But I'll get there.

And probably revive this to post my comment. :P

I enjoyed Magician. I have not read it in some years, but I do remember it fondly. :) I agree with Avatar that the three Empire books co-written with Janny Wurts are even better, but you have to read Magician and its immediate sequels first (and they are enjoyable in their own right). :)

Feist has many books & series set on the world of Midkemia. I tend to like the earlier work rather than the later...but that is all an issue of personal taste, and very subjective. :)

I haven't read most of the newer ones, but I agree that they seem to have...slipped. The Krondor interludes, (Betrayal, Assasins and Tear were enjoyable, and the Serpent War books were great too.

But the others are not as good. That in no way detracts from the early ones though.

I loved Magician and the 2 or 3 sequels were fairly decent too. After that, the series failed to keep my attention though - so agree with other posts on here.

Empire series with Feist & Janny Wurts were nothing short of stunning. It remains right up there among my faves of all time

I think I read up to about The King's Buccaneer in high school and then got bored with it, but I re-read Magician a while back, and enjoyed it much more on the second go around. So I've read most of his stuff now. It's a little light-weight, but he tells a good story, so I'm intending to collect his books, if only to fortify my fantasy collection.

I back Avatar, duchess, and ur-monkeys sentiments 100%, Spring.

Read Feist's first three and then read Wurts's Empire series.

You'll get immersed in not one, but two, well fleshed-out worlds.

What Wurts, in particular, does with the world she develops is quite wonderful.

And then you can try 'The Curse of the Mistwraith' which is one of those epic series that I am going to finish reading some day.
